    • A process for producing a copolymeric polyester, which comprises a first step of preparing a copolymeric oligomer by reacting a starting material oligoester or polyester having repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms, a divalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group having from 4 to 20 carbon atoms or/and a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms (provided a hydrogen atom in the aromatic ring of the aromatic hydrocarbon group may be substituted by a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms), and R.sup.2 is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 2 to 40 carbon atoms, a divalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group having from 4 to 20 carbon atoms, or a divalent radical of polyalkylene oxide having a molecular weight of from 80 to 8000, in an amount from 5 to 95 mol % as represented by the amount of the repeating units constituting the oligoester or polyester, with from 5 to 95 mol % of a hydroxycarboxylic acid of the formula:HO--R.sup.3 COOH (B)wherein R.sup.3 is a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms on its aromatic ring (provided a hydrogen atom in the aromatic ring of the aromatic hydrocarbon group may be substituted by a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms), a second step of acylating the oligomer by an addition of an acylating agent, and a third step of polymerizing the acylated oligomer under reduced pressure, wherein prior to the completion of the second step, a dihydroxyl compound of the formula:HOR.sup.4 OH (C)wherein R.sup.4 has the same meaning as R.sup.1 in the formula A, or the compound of the formula C and a dicarboxylic acid of the formula:HOOCR.sup.5 COOH (D)wherein R.sup.5 has the same meaning as R.sup.1 in the formula A, are added for reaction.

    • To provide a polyester resin having 1,4-CHDA as the main dicarboxylic acid units, having isomerization of trans-1,4-CHDA suppressed in the esterification and polyconsensation reactions and having a high melting point and excellent heat resistance, and a process for its production. A polyester resin obtainable by preparing an oligomer by an esterification reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component containing 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid as the main component, with a diol component, and polycondensing this oligomer in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst; and a process for producing a polyester resin characterized in that the esterification reaction is carried out by means of a basic compound, and then, the polycondensation reaction is carried out by means of a polycondensation catalyst. In the resent invention, T0 and Tp satisfy 0≦{(T0−Tp)/T0}×100≦12 where T0 is the mol % of the trans form in the 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid contained in the starting material, and Tp is the mol % of the trans form in the 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid units contained in the obtainable polyester resin.

    • Disclosed herein is a wholly aromatic polyester comprising the structural units represented by the formulae (A), (B), (C), (D), and (E) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, an alkoxy group or a phenoxy group ##STR2## wherein A represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a sulfonyl group, a carbonyl group, an alkylene group or an alkylidene group, or a single bond directly connecting the two benzene rings and R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 represent respectively a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon group,the wholly aromatic polyester containing 5 to 50 mol % of the unit (A), 5 to 45 mol % of the unit (B), 5 to 45 mol % of the unit (C), 5 to 20 mol % of the unit (D) and 0 to 10 mol % of the unit (E), and the sum of the amounts of the unit (A) and the unit (B) and the sum of the amounts of the unit (C), the unit (D) and the unit (E) being substantially equimolar, and a process for producing the same.
