    • 1,109,192. Diaphragm setting means. M.C. SCHNEIDER and H.J. SCHNEIDER [trading as JOS. SCHNEIDER & CO. OPTISCHE WERKEJ. April 1, 1966 [April 3, 1965], No. 14436/66. Heading G2A. A diaphragm-stop pre-selector is jointly controlled by two independent selectors each having a plurality of positions representing different values of respective variables (e.g. film sensitivity, distance or focusing range), the setting means associated with these selectors having respectively different degrees of freedom. The range selector is a ring (9) on the housing (1) of the camera Fig. 1 (not shown) carrying a scale (9a) reading against a fixed mark on the camera. Rotation of this ring (9) is transmitted, via threaded rings (8, 7 and 16) into axial movement of the objective lens (31) for focusing purposes. A spring-loaded rod 4 slides axially in a bore (1a) in the housing, and its forward end bears against the face of a ring 5, said face being formed as a cam surface. A lug 12 fixed to the ring (9) engages in a cut-out 5b on ring 5, so that ring 5 rotates with the first ring (9), and thus rod 4 moves axially with the cam surface on ring 5 in accordance with the distance setting. Also mounted on the camera housing is a sensitivity-selector ring (10), actuated by a knob (11), and reading against a film-sensitivity scale. Ring 10 has a diagonal cam-slot 10a which receives a stud 5a projecting from ring 5. Thus rotation of ring 10 results in an axial movement of ring 5, and hence of rod 4. Thus ring 5 receives a rotational movement from the first ring (9) (distance setting) and an axial movement from ring 10 (film-speed setting), both of these affecting the axial position of rod 4. The diaphragmsetting mechanism includes a rotatable ring 15, having an extension 15b with a stepped profile 15c. The diaphragm is normally maintained in a fullyopen position, and closed to the selected position only when the shutter release is pressed. This selected position is determined by the position of rod 4, which will arrest the movement of ring 15 according to which part of the stepped profile 15c it is in alignment with. The ring 15 may, if desired, be de-coupled and adjusted manually.
