    • A beverage cooler has a cold plate and a plastic ice cube bin secured to the cold plate by an adaptor which is permanently adjoined to plastic walls of the hopper. The adaptor has a tongue, a plate arm which fits into a rabbet on the cold plate, a foam flange which extends out into foam insulation and a plate flange fastened to the cold plate; the plastic hopper walls have a foot molded into the plate flange and rivets molded into the tongue. A method of manufacturing the plastic ice bin has the plastic walls being molded onto the adaptor, preferably by rotomolding using polyethylene as the material. A beverage cooler construction has a rotomolded exterior shell fastened to the plastic ice hopper by a spacer and top molding and has insulated beverage outlet lines which exit the shell through an offset under the molding rim. The beverage cooler has a structure which meets all sanitation codes, which is reliable, which has a long expected life, which is sanitary, and which can be manufactured by the rotomolding process.

    • The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for maintaining cold carbonated water in a beverage dispensing device so that unacceptably warm water is not dispensed therefrom. A modified beverage dispensing apparatus is shown including a carbonated water supply, a cold plate, carbonated water supply line extending through the cold plate, and in fluid communication with a carbonated water plenum immediately adjacent and in fluid communication with a plurality of beverage dispensing valves. An electronic control device connected to a temperature sensing thermostat located in the plenum and to a solenoid discharge valve of the plenum. The control device is also connected to a temperature sensing thermostat in the cold plate and to a pressure sensor located in the line between the source of compressed carbon dioxide and the carbonated water reservoir. In operation, the control device provides for sensing of the temperature in the plenum so that the solenoid valve can be operated to discharge carbonated water from the plenum if the temperature thereof rises above a predetermined value. So that the water therein can be replaced by water of a suitable lower temperature. The control device also senses cold plate temperature and CO2 pressure so that unacceptably high temperature or low pressure respectively thereof is indicated to the operator and so that the control device can interrupt beverage dispensing.

    • An ice cube makes has a generally upright gridded evaporator, a hot gas defrost for harvest of cubes, a storage bin below the evaporator, a hinged cube and water curtain between the evaporator and the bin, a new and improved control for the freeze cycle, and a new and improved control for the harvest cycle. The freeze cycle control has a temperature sensor, on a backside of the evaporator, circuitry to count down a predetermined time after a predetermined plate temperature has been sensed, the circuit terminates the countdown if the plate temperature exceeds the predetermined temperature and restarts the countdown when the predetermined temperature is again reached, and the circuit switches the refrigeration from freeze to hot gas defrost when the countdown is completed for harvest of the ice cubes; the harvest control has an ice curtain sensor connected to the refrigeration control, and a lever between the ice curtain and the sensor, when the curtain is opened by ice cubes the sensor picks up the lever movement and the control switches the refrigeration from the defrost to the freeze cycle.

    • A latching mechanism selectively maintains a first member and a second member in secured engagement by the interposition of a striker plate, mounted upon the second member, between spaced apart arms carried by a latching cam mounted on the first member for pivotal movement and locked in a latching position against such movement by a locking member, and moves the first member away from the second member upon selective release of the secured engagement by the actuation of a push-button assembly which unlocks the locking member and allows the latching cam to be moved out of the latching position by a biasing spring so that one of the spaced apart arms pushes against the strike plate to move the first member away from the second member. Selective movement of the first member toward the second member engages the one of the spaced apart arms with the strike plate and moves the latching cam against the biasing force of the biasing spring until the locking member locks the latching cam in the latched position, with the strike plate interposed between the spaced apart arms of the latching cam. In the event of a jam, an auxiliary latch retains the locking member in an unlocked position independent of the push-button assembly.

    • The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for maintaining cold carbonated water in a beverage dispensing device so that unacceptably warm water is not dispensed therefrom. A modified beverage dispensing apparatus is shown including a carbonated water supply, a cold plate, a cabonated water supply line extending through the cold plate, and in fluid communication with a carbonated water plenum immediately adjacent and in fluid communication with a plurality of beverage dispensing valves. An electronic control device connected to a temperature sensing thermostat located in the plenum and to a solenoid discharge valve of the plenum. The control device is also connected to a temperature sensing thermostat in the cold plate and to a pressure sensor located in the line between the source of compressed carbon dioxide and the carbonated water reservoir. In operation, the control device provides for sensing of the temperature in the plenum so that the solenoid valve can be operated to discharge carbonated water from the plenum if the temperature thereof rises above a predetermined value. So that the water therein can be replaced by water of a suitable lower temperature. The control device also senses cold plate temperature and CO2 pressure so that unacceptably high temperature or low pressure respectively thereof is indicated to the operator and so that the control device can interrupt beverage dispensing.
