    • An apparatus for enabling provision of a localized virtual reality environment may include at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code may be configured, with the processor, to cause the apparatus to perform at least receiving information indicative of a current location of a mobile terminal, receiving information indicative of an orientation of the mobile terminal with respect to the current location, causing a stored image including a panoramic view of the current location to be displayed at the mobile terminal based on the orientation, and enabling provision of a virtual object on the panoramic view. A corresponding method and computer program product are also provided.

    • Described is a system for conveying the spatial location of an object with respect to a user's current location utilizing a video rendering following an automatically generated path from the user's location to the location of the object of interest initiated from the user's current perspective. The system comprises a display device; a virtual three-dimensional model of the user's environment; a visualization creation module; a route planner; and a video rendering following an automatically generated path from the user's location to the location of the object of interest utilizing the visualization creation module, wherein the video rendering displayed on the display device is from a first-person view. Also described is a method of utilizing the system.

    • A method and apparatus for positioning labels on a graphical display, which, in an illustrative embodiment, can include labels for aircraft icons in an air traffic control system's computer graphics display. The present invention advantageously identifies clusters of overlapping labels and objects, and calculates non-overlapping label positions on a cluster by cluster basis. In another aspect of the present invention, the movement of labels is accomplished in a smooth, incremental fashion so that cognitive distraction to the user of the graphical display terminal is kept to a minimum.

    • A multi-stage method of visual object detection is disclosed. The method was originally designed to detect humans in specific poses, but is applicable to generic detection of any object. A first stage comprises acts of searching for members of a predetermined general-class of objects (such as humans) in an image using a cognitive swarm, detecting members of the general-class of objects in the image, and selecting regions of the image containing detected members of the general-class of objects. A second stage comprises acts of searching for members of a predetermined specific-class of objects (such as humans in a certain pose) within the selected regions of the image using a cognitive swarm, detecting members of the specific-class of objects within the selected regions of the image, and outputting the locations of detected objects to an operator display and optionally to an automatic response system.
