    • A wireless communication network manages communication resources based on the types of packet data being carried by the network for each mobile station. Packet data for each use is matched to packet matching filters in defined flow type profiles. Each flow type profile corresponds to an expected application behavior and includes one or more resource control parameters having values set with regard to that expected behavior. An application activity profile is generated for each mobile station based on deriving resource control parameters using parameter values corresponding to the active flows for each mobile station. The network determines each mobile station's active flows based on matching that mobile station's packet data types to one or more of the defined flow type profiles. Thus, the network manages communication resources individually and/or jointly for its users based on the type of packet data traffic passing through the network for each of those users.

    • A call handling method and apparatus provide improved call handling in scenarios where concurrent voice and data service is not supported, or is not possible. A wireless communication network can be configured to provide real-time notifications of incoming voice calls to mobile stations that are busy in data calls, and can route those incoming voice call to voice mail, etc. The network can be configured to attempt call delivery of an incoming voice call to a mobile station busy in a data call with or without prompting the mobile station user, depending on the type of data service the mobile station is engaged in. According to exemplary embodiments, the traffic channel and other resources as desired are retained from the data call for use in supporting the voice call. Also, the mobile stations can be configured to support such notification, reconfiguration and channel retention processing.

    • A method and an apparatus for updating the location of a plurality of mobile stations (107) in a moving craft or vehicle (105). Each time a new mobile station (107) is attached to a common terminal (103) located in the moving craft or vehicle, an initial location updating message is transmitted to a satellite system (101). Information based on the initial location updating message is then stored in the satellite system (101). When the common terminal (103) enters a new location area, a location updating message is transmitted including an identity of the common terminal (103). The satellite system (101) can then derive the new location for each of the attached mobile stations (107) based on the transmitted location updating message and the stored information on the mobile stations (107) currently being attached to the common terminal (103). In this way, the traffic load for location updating is significantly reduced, also providing communication access for a plurality of mobile stations in a moving craft or vehicle.

    • Two fluids having different temperatures are to be mixed while supplying one fluid (A) through a main pipe (1) and conducting the other fluid (B) from a secondary pipe (2) into the main pipe. A mixing device (6) comprises a connecting branch which extends essentially radially into the main pipe (1) from the secondary pipe (2) and along whose outside the first fluid (A) may pass and which is formed with at least one nozzle-shaped aperture through which the second fluid (B) can be conducted into and mixed with the passing first fluid. The connecting branch comprises at least one through channel (13) extending transversely of the connecting branch and suitably in parallel with the longitudinal extent of the main pipe (1) and through which part of the first fluid can pass in a central partial flow. The inlet end of the channel (13) has a larger cross-sectional area than the outlet end, thereby giving the first fluid (A) an increased flow rate at the outlet end, the nozzle-shaped aperture being located adjacent this channel. In this manner, the second fluid is intimately mixed with the first in a centrally positioned area, while minimising every inclination of the second fluid to flow from the mixing device directly or abruptly, radially outwards towards the peripherally positioned main pipe (3).
