    • A knockout arrangement for an electrical junction box includes a housing having at least one side wall being substantially planar, a pair of spaced apart first knockout structures on the side wall with the first knockout structures defining a first circular knockout and a second annular knockout surrounding and containing the first circular knockout, the first and second knockouts having centers spaced apart such that the second knockout is defined in eccentric relation to the first knockout and the first and second knockouts of each knockout structure are adapted to be selectively removed to create a trade size opening for passage of a conduit of either of two sizes through the side wall, and a second knockout structure disposed on the side wall between and spaced apart from the first knockout structures and containing only the first knockout. The housing further has a plurality of the side walls with an opposing pair of the side walls having a plurality of spaced apart coplanar mounting ears respectively disposed adjacent opposite ends of the opposing side walls for attachment of a cover plate having corresponding mounting holes or slots to the housing for mounting of a dynamic load to the cover plate.

    • An electrical box assembly including an electrical box and a mounting bracket rigidly coupled to the box for mounting the box onto a support member, such as a stud or a joist. The mounting bracket includes a base portion and a pair of leg portions resiliently coupled to the base portion to form a substantially U-shaped, three-sided bracket. The mounting bracket has inwardly extending arms for resiliently gripping the support member. The arms of the mounting bracket grip onto either side of a metal or wood support member to secure the electrical box to the support member and prevent relative movement between the electrical box and the support member. In one embodiment, the arms include teeth to improve the grip between the mounting bracket and a wood support member. In another embodiment, the mounting bracket is coupled to the box by clamping tabs.

    • A support structure for an electrical box includes an elongated support member which is fastened into a hole in the rear wall of the box, the depth of insertion being determined by a stop flange. The length of the support member can be adjusted to approximately match the distance between the rear wall of the box and the inner surface of a sheet of wall material behind the rear wall by breaking off portions of the support member at one of a plurality of weakened regions formed by a uniform sequence of annular recesses. The support, thus installed, limits motion of the unmounted end of the box.

    • An electrical box bracket has an adjustable member to facilitate securing the bracket to supports of varying sizes. The bracket has first and second legs that are connected by a third leg. A cut-out extends from the first leg onto the third leg. The adjustable member is formed by the cut-out to facilitate securing the bracket to the support. A centerline on the third leg of the bracket is adapted to be aligned with corresponding indicia on the support. The support indicia is visible through the cut-out to facilitate positioning the bracket on the support.     • An electrical box for mounting a ceiling fan or a light fixture in which the electrical box is the sole support for the fan or fixture. The electrical box has mounting holes on its sides for receiving fasteners for securing the electrical box directly to a joist, beam, or other structural support member. Preferably, the fasteners are nails to provide an easy installation. The electrical box has flanges with both fixture and fan mounting holes as well as holes for mounting a cover. A cover can be mounted directly to the electrical box. The cover can be the attaching element between the electrical box and the fan or fixture.

    • An electrical box for supporting ceiling fans, the electrical box has a top portion and a side portion extending completely around the top portion and extending substantially perpendicularly to the top portion. The top portion has a substantially planar lower surface, and the side portion has two oppositely spaced tabs extending inwardly toward each other. Each of the tabs has an opening extending completely therethrough. At least one mounting hole is formed in either the top portion or the side portion or the corner formed between the top and side portions. The mounting hole or holes each have a hole axis inclined with respect to the lower surface of the top portion. Each mounting hole extends completely through the wall between an inner cavity of the electrical box and an area outside the wall. The electrical box can have various mounting brackets attached thereto for securing the electrical box to a support member such as a joist or a truss. An electrical box mounting screw is inserted into each mounting hole to secure the electrical box to the support member. The present invention also encompasses a method for modifying an existing fixture supporting electrical box so that it can support ceiling fans.

    • A universal cable clamp for coupling a wide variety of electrical cables to an electrical box is capable of accepting metal or non-metallic sheathed cables. The cable clamp includes upper and lower clamping plates and a front wall having at least one opening for receiving the cable. The upper and lower clamping plates are coupled together by bendable coupling arms. A fastener extends through the upper and lower clamping plates and into the electrical box to deform the bendable coupling arms while the cable is clamped between the upper and lower clamping plates. The opening in the front wall in embodiments is oval-shaped and is dimensioned to allow a non-metallic sheathed cable to pass through, while preventing the metal sheath of a metal sheathed cable from passing through. The clamp provides a grounding connection of the metal cables and conduits. The cable clamp accommodates thick or thin steel and aluminum flex metal conduits, armored cable, metal clad cable and non-metallic cable.
