    • A collapsible vehicle safety seat is essentially designed to restrain movement of the occupant especially at the time of frontal, rear-end and lateral collisions in high and low speed or when an impact becomes inevitable. The seat includes an actuator controlled and operated electronically or manually. The onset of the collision sequences the car crash sensor or collision avoidance devices including occupant voice activated actuator. The trigger release forces of a biasing member or equivalently devices electromagnetic or pyrotechnic to deploys instantly pivot frame incorporated with movable seat cushion, seat back and headrest. The alteration of the movable seat assembly from a normal stationary position creates a safety zone that allows occupants to lower their center of gravity to an optimum seating position.

    • A multifunction vehicle seat reduces the impact peak and decreases the transfer of acceleration and deceleration forces to all regions of the occupant's body during frontal, rear-end and lateral collisions at high and low speed impacts or when collision becomes inevitable. The seat is isolated from the structural integrity of the vehicle by an anti-friction ball and a plurality of stabilizers. The anti-friction ball is adapted for universal movement over a movable base plate to reduce the transfer of kinetic energy to the seat and to the occupant. The stabilizers are interlocked and engaged with the seat support assembly to delay the response of the seat to the impact until a pulley system is activated. The pulley system is activated electronically or manually to deform the seat cushion, seat back and headrest during and before impact.

On a signal from a pre-crash detection device, or a manual or verbal indication, an energized solenoid instantly releases the forces of torsion springs and triggers the seat bottom and backrest for concurrent movement in sufficient time to mitigate excessive accelerations, loads and moments of forces acting upon seated occupants in response to impact modes. The distorted geometry of the bottom frame and backrest with head restraint enhances the safety performance of the seat belt and reduces the aggressiveness of airbags.

    • A safety system for dissipating the forces involved in a vehicle collision comprises two large friction platforms beneath the vehicle unibody or floor pan, with each platform having an actuator between the platform and the overlying vehicle structure and connected to the platform by a series of struts or arms. The actuators are preferably automated and pyrotechnically actuated to drive the struts outwardly and downwardly, thereby driving the platforms downwardly beneath the vehicle and against the underlying surface to lift the vehicle slightly above the underlying surface. The vehicle may be surrounded by a plurality of bumper-like impact absorbing contact structures, with each structure also linked to a corresponding friction platform. The outer portion of each contact structure telescopes into the inner portion, and drives a series of struts connected to the corresponding friction platform. Each contact structure may also include a sensor for impact detection and linkage for triggering the actuators to drive the platforms. The safety system thus minimizes interaction between vehicle and another impacted object by progressive actuation of the trapezoidal contact structure and associated mechanisms, while maximizing interaction between vehicle and underlying surface by the actuator and friction platform. Alternatively, high spring rate compression springs may be provided in addition to the pyrotechnic actuation system, with the springs providing slower actuation for repeatable manual operation for securing the car against theft or holding the car in place on a grade or in slippery conditions.
