    • A hand-operated inflator device for inflating the expander on a balloon-type catheter. It comprises a molded plastic housing for retaining a syringe tube therein for containing an inflation fluid. The housing also includes an internally threaded surface. A syringe plunger having an internal longitudinal bore and a longitudinal slot formed through the wall thereof has a piston mounted on the distal end for insertion into the syringe body. Fitted into the longitudinal slot is an externally threaded member which can be raised and lowered in a radial direction by manipulation of a manuable actuable means positioned in the longitudinal bore of the plunger. When the externally threaded member is raised, its teeth mesh with the teeth on the internally threaded annular surface of the housing, but when lowered, the threaded surfaces are disengaged. When the two are engaged, the piston is advanced in the syringe tube by rotating the plunger. When the two are disengaged, the plunger may be advanced by longitudinal force applied to the end of the plunger.

    • A method of attaching a plastic hub member to the proximal end of a Teflon-lined thermoplastic tubular catheter so as to prevent delamination of the Teflon lining at the site of the attachment. The thermoplastic outer layer of the tubular catheter is removed in a grinding operation for a predetermined distance from the proximal end of the tube to expose a short length of the Teflon lining. Next, a spinning forming tool is forced against the proximal end of the tubular catheter causing the exposed Teflon lining to be rolled back over the outer surface of the thermoplastic tube. Next, the proximal end of the catheter is inserted into the bore of the hub and because the Teflon layer has been rolled over the end portion of the tubular catheter, it is trapped against an internal flange formed in the catheter hub when the hub is adhesively bonded to the exterior of the thermoplastic layer and prevented from delaminating and possibly occluding the lumen of the catheter.

    • A catheter for facilitating the exchange of guidewires during the course of a transluminal angioplasty or related procedure which comprises an elongated, flexible, tubular member having at least one lumen running the full length thereof from its proximal end to its distal end and which at least three apertures or ports extending through the wall thereof at longitudinally spaced locations near the distal end of the tubular member.     • An inflation/deflation device for an angioplasty balloon catheter which permits quick inflation to an approximate working pressure followed by a fine but slower adjustment to a final desired pressure. The device includes a housing containing a syringe of the type having a cylindrical chamber containing a piston. A specially designed plunger extends from the proximal end of the housing whereby the initial approxiate pressure can be achieved by the hand-squeezing of the plunger and a slight rotation of that plunger is used to maintain the plunger in a locked disposition. An internal shaft is disposed within the tubular plunger and its distal end is secured to the syringe's piston. The internal shaft includes a threaded segment on its exterior surface engaging a correspondingly threaded surface on the interior of the plunger such that rotation of the shaft relative to the plunger causes axial movement of the piston within the syringe.

    • An apparatus for delivery of an elongate member into the lumen of a trans-dermal catheter. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus comprises a protective sheath configured to at least substantially surround an elongate member; and slidable member configured to travel along the protective sheath, the slidable member operatively coupled to the elongate member; wherein the elongate member is insertable into a lumen of a trans-dermal catheter by moving the slidable member along at least a part of the length of the protective sheath.
