    • A method of removing a printing plate, each having leading and trailing edges located in respective lock-up slots in a plate cylinder of a printing press, from said plate cylinder, is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of extracting a first of said leading and trailing edges, rotating the plate cylinder in a first direction such that an extraction element located proximal to the surface of the plate cylinder passes beneath the extracted first edge until the printing plate is lifted off the surface of the plate cylinder by the extraction element, with the second edge still in its lock-up slot, to cause the second edge to move within its lock-up slot as the plate is lifted to loosen said second edge within its lock-up slot, rotating the plate cylinder in a second direction so that said plate drops back and, rotating the plate cylinder in the first direction again so that the extraction element pulls said loosened second edge out of said lock-up slot.

    • Credit information is shared between credit-providing companies and debt-collection companies. A computer-implemented method includes receiving over a network first data from credit-providing companies. The first data represents credit information regarding debtors. This first data is stored within a centralized database. The method also includes receiving over the network second data representing queries from debt-collection companies and which are to be proceeded against the first data stored within the centralized database. Each query relates to a debtor that has defaulted on debt thereof. Each query is processed against the first data stored within the centralized database, yielding third data representing the credit information of the debtor to which the query in question relates. The method further includes sending the third data over the network to the debt-collection company from which the query was received.

    • Methods and reagents for isolating polynucleotide molecules from uncultured microbial cells in an environmental sample, the method comprising: obtaining uncultured microbial cells from the sample, dispersing the cells from each other and from other components in the sample, purifying the dispersed cells via discontinuous gradient centrifugation wherein the cells are collected in an interface of the gradient, embedding the cells in agarose gel, to produce agarose gel blocks containing the cells, and lysing the cells within the agarose gel blocks, thereby releasing high molecular weight polynucleotide molecules from the cells. Also disclosed are methods and compositions for cloning the polynucleotide molecules so isolated, further comprising incubating the gel blocks with at least a suitable restriction endonuclease to partially digest the polynucleotide molecules, separating the digested polynucleotide molecules by pulse field electrophoresis, to recover fragments of polynucleotide molecules with size of at least 50 kb, ligating recovered fragments of polynucleotide molecules to a suitable cloning vector, and transforming a suitable host cell with the cloning vector containing the fragments of the high molecular weight polynucleotide molecules.

    • An immersion method teaches a student conversational speech aspects of a language (such as a second language) while, in the process, intensively exposing the student to a relevant conversational program (such as advertising) as an integral part of the teaching process. The method may include displaying, to the user/student, portions of video and audio of a conversational program (such as an advertisement in a second language), while causing a textual indication of the displayed audio to be simultaneously displayed (e.g., in the second language and a native language). The user may be prompted for information indicative of comprehension of the program by the user. Particularly in the case of advertising, information indicative of comprehension of the program can be very useful to the advertiser, as well as the prompting process itself serving to reinforce themes presented in the advertisement.
