    • A filter device includes a filter housing (10), a filter inlet (12), a filter outlet (14), and a filter element (16). The filter element divides a filter area (18) into two partial areas (20, 22). One partial filter areas is conical in form with the cross-section of that partial area (20) being tapered from the filter inlet (12) to the filter outlet (14). The partial areas are separated from each other by the filter element. This arrangement results in an optimum residence time distribution inside the filter device at a uniform flow rate, which is particularly useful for highly viscous fluids such as polymer melts or similar.

    • A filter device, in particular, for high-pressure applications in a molten polymer filtration, has a screw-in piece (10), provided with a first threaded section (12) for fixing the filter device, and a second threaded section (14) for fixing a filter medium (16), in particular, in the form of a metal wool and with a perforated support tube (18) for the metal wool. The other free end of the filter device is provided with a volume displacer (24). The metal wool is surrounded by a support grid (20) and fixed by two fixing pieces (28, 30), held at a separation from each other by the support grid (20). One fixing piece (28) is fixed to the second threaded section (14) of the screw-in piece (10). The other fixing piece forms a handle (30) for the fixing formed. As a result of the volume displacer (24) being a one-piece component of the support tube (18) and the fixing piece (30) forming the handle covering the volume displacer (24), the filter device is significantly improved in that a simple and rapid assembly procedure for the exchangeable filter medium is provided. Also, the filter element construction is held formed to be free of damaging torsional loads.

    • A filter device, particularly for filtering melt-type fluids, such as polymer melts, includes at least one filter disk having two filter disk halves connected to each other by their edges and provided with filter material on their exterior surfaces. The filter disk halves are held apart by a supporting device delimiting a substantially free hollow area between them, through which a fluid can flow freely. Inwardly, they delimit an outflow opening for the melt-type filtered fluid. The supporting device has individual supporting cams of substantially equal outer dimensions and arranged in several groups. Separated from each other, the supporting cams extend radially outwardly form the outflow opening, are rigidly connected to at least one of the two halves, and traverse the hollow area in such a way as to rest against the other filter disk half. This results in a filter device which is economical to produce and which has enhanced filter performance when in operation. It is suited particularly to filtering melt-type liquids, such as polymer melts, under high pressure.

    • A gas bag for a vehicular occupant restraint system comprises two plies of fabric partially interwoven along their outer edges. To offer protection over a lengthy period in time amounting to several seconds but nevertheless dissipate the energy of impact to the required degree on impact and cushioning of the occupant, the plies of fabric are substantially air-tight, and the volume of the gas bag is divided by partial interweaving of the plies of fabric within the outer edges into several chambers. Further, the chambers are interconnected by at least one choked port remaining between the portions of the interwoven plies of fabric. Only part of the chambers is directly inflated by an inflator, the remaining part of the chambers being indirectly inflated via the choked port.
