    • A proposed method to illuminate optimally, or at least in an improved fashion compared with existing solutions, a road taken by a vehicle in question implementing the method whilst ensuring that other vehicles are not dazzled. To this end, it is not proposed in the invention to detect the distance between the vehicle in question and the first vehicle liable to be dazzled by the vehicle in question, and to generate accordingly a light beam optimized in terms of range on the road, and advantageously light intensity; according to the invention, the optimization of the light beam produced is achieved by the use of the motorway function available on the vehicle in question. The use of this function in this context also ensures a gradual transition between the function of the dipped type and the function of the main-beam type in the context of automatic switching operations between these functions.

    • The objection of the invention is a compact headlight, for a motor vehicle, giving a light beam with cut-off, in particular of the fog type, having an optical axis and comprising a light source having a substantially horizontal axis extending substantially perpendicular to the optical axis of the headlight. In accordance with the invention, the headlight does not have a reflector and comprises, in front of the light source, a lens determined so as to give a light beam with cut-off. According to one embodiment, the source and the lens are formed in a single unit. The source is then formed from one or more light emitting diodes and the lens from a heat-resistant synthetic material which is moulded onto at least one luminous surface of the source.

    • A system and method for controlling the in situ orientation of the headlamps of a vehicle, from a camera that is mounted in the headlamp, as a function of the attitude of the vehicle. A camera is secured to a reflector of the headlamp so as to film the road extending in front of the vehicle. An image processing unit processes at least two successive images in order to detennine a measured horizon line of the road scene in front of the vehicle. A setpoint horizon line has been determined beforehand during initial adjustment of the headlamp. The real horizon line is then brought closer to the setpoint horizon line by modifying the orientation of the headlamp, until the distance between the measured line and the setpoint line tends towards zero.
