    • A two part clamshell web cassette is provided with a central recess for receiving a web roll core. The core and cassette half shells have mating surfaces which form a labyrinth light seal when the cassette is closed and which prevent rotation of the core during handling of the cassette to provide a core brake. Surfaces on the cassette parts clamp the web tail of a partially dispensed web roll when the cassette is closed. The core brake and web clamping surfaces facilitate transport of the cassette without loss of intra-roll web tension. The cassette is provided with a latch for retaining the cassette half shells in a closed light sealed condition. A frangible covering over a latch release means indicates when broken that the cassette may have been opened prematurely. The cassette further includes a web end retaining means which retains the web end portion to the underlying convolution. The cassette further includes an orientation of light blocking surfaces on each half shell which permits the half shells to be identically molded and then rotated 180 degrees during assembly to cause the light blocking surfaces to mate.

    • In a bale case (20) of an agricultural baler, a reciprocating plunger (71) is connected by a connecting rod assembly (90) and a wrist pin (92) to a driving crankshaft (74). A tension adjusting system (60) is provided for adjusting the dimensions of a bale case (20). The tension adjusting system (60) is responsive to a signal produced by sensors which sense stress when a compactive force is applied by the plunger (71) to crop material in the bale case (20). In one embodiment shear stress sensors (124, 126, 128, and 130) are mounted in annular recesses (120, 122) on the exterior of a wrist pin (92) to sense upon compaction the shear stress experienced by the wrist pin (92) in shear planes (160A, 160B). In another embodiment shear stress sensors (170, 171, 172, and 173) are mounted on an interior surface (174) of a wrist pin (90') to sense the shear stress experienced by the wrist pin (92') in shear planes (176, 177). In an another embodiment, bending stress sensors (182, 183, 184 and 185) are mounted on chordal flat portions (180 and 181) of a wrist pin (92") to sense upon compaction the bending stress experienced by the wrist pin (92") in a bending plane.     • A method of calibrating digital images having pixels with pixel values includes the steps of: exposing a photographic element to form a latent image of a reference calibration target including a plurality of reference calibration patches; exposing the photographic element to form a latent image of a scene; processing the photographic element to form developed images from the latent images on the photographic element; scanning the developed images to produce digital images; measuring the pixel values of the digital image of the reference calibration target to produce a measured value for each of the reference calibration patches; obtaining an aim value and adjustment data corresponding to each reference calibration patch; generating image calibration corrections using the measured values, the aim values, and the adjustment data; and applying the image calibration corrections to the digital image of the scene.
