    • A composite cover for a portion of a motor vehicle transmission has an integral, internal heat sink to which an electronic controller is attached. The cover, which may be fabricated of any temperature appropriate plastic or composite, closes off and protects that portion of a motor vehicle transmission having electrical and electronic components such as valves, solenoids, motors and sensors. Spaced from the inside surface of the cover where it is subjected on both sides to flow of transmission fluid is a plate or heat sink. An electronic controller is disposed on the outside of the cover and attached by heat transferring mechanical fasteners such as studs or bolts to the plate inside the cover. Preferably, the housing of the controller also includes a heat sink.

    • A transmission includes a transmission case, a rotatable component disposed within the transmission case, and a sump disposed below the rotatable component for storing a hydraulic fluid. A gear train baffle is disposed between the rotatable component and the transmission case. The baffle includes an outer surface, an inner surface defining a cavity that substantially encircles the rotatable component, and a plurality of tabs disposed radially outward from the outer surface. The plurality of tabs are in contact with the transmission case to prevent the baffle from rotating. A plurality of openings are located at a bottom portion of the baffle. The plurality of openings extend through the baffle between the inner surface and the outer surface. The hydraulic fluid from the rotatable component collects on the inner surface of the baffle and is directed out of the cavity through the plurality of openings into the sump.

    • An air/oil separator includes a housing having an inlet for aerated oil or hydraulic fluid and outlets for the separated air and oil or fluid. The housing is generally cylindrical and defines an upper, inlet portion, a center, separator portion and a lower collector portion. The upper, inlet portion of the housing includes a first, tangential inlet passageway which merges with a second, spiral or circular passageway. The spiral or circular passageway communicates with the cyclonic separator portion which may be either cylindrical or frusto-conical. A coaxial outlet in the upper, inlet portion allows separated air to return to the engine or transmission housing while an outlet in the lower, collector portion returns oil or hydraulic fluid to the device.
