    • The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for managing radio resources for providing wireless access to a communication system to a number of terminals. The communication system comprises a first access network (120) using a first access technology and at least one second access network (110) using at least one second access technology different to the first access technology. A listening agent (203) situated in at least the first access network (120) extracts access relevant information from existing messages within at least the first access network. The access relevant information is sent to an access selection manager (201) that compares the extracted access relevant information to access relevant information received from the at least one second access network (110) and determines which access network a terminal (130) should access based on the comparison.

    • The present invention relates to a method for reestablishing wireless communication between a radio access network (RAN1) and a mobile station (MS1), an apparatus (RNC1) used for implementing the method as well as a radio access network (RAN1) including such an apparatus. A downlink radio failure affecting a first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2) including at least two radio bearers (RB1, RB2) assigned for communicating user data between the radio access network (RAN1) and the mobile station (MS1) is detected. A second set of radio bearers (RB1) for communicating user data is defined, excluding the radio bearer (RB2) having the highest downlink bit rate in the first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2). Communication reestablishment is intitiated using the second set of radio bearers (RB1).

    • The present invention relates to a method for improved and efficient usage of radio network resources with regard to the transmission properties of applied communication channel types and total network load by means of using early indications on the uplink or downlink of requests to establish new communication connection or adjust parameter settings of already existing connections regading the expectable amount of additional traffic due to such a connection. Early indications are, e.g., information on protocol type, the kind of requested communication service, the profile of the user equipment that has sent the request, or traffic history. In response to such indications the inventive method can forward, e.g., an uplink request and at the same time initiate a channel type switching providing appropriate channel parameter settings or adjustments. In case of congestion control it is another possibility to delay or even suppress uplink requests.

    • The invention provides methods method for access selection in a Multi-Access Network offering a plurality of Access Technologies (AT). The device may comprises a Multi Access Management entity (MAM) and a plurality of Generic Link Layer Entities (GLL) associated to a plurality of Accesses (A) according to said plurality of Access Technologies (AT). The access selection comprises an Access determination and an Access configuration. In a first step a Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) determines one or more Generic Performance Metrics (GPM) corresponding to one or more configurations of the Access (A). The Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) sends the determined one or more Generic Performance Metrics (GPM) corresponding to one or more configurations of the access (A) to the Multi Access Management entity (MAM). The Multi Access Management entity (MAM) determines from received Generic Performance Metrics (GPM), which Access (A) offers a configuration (GPM), which is suited for an application/bearer requirements. Then, said Multi Access Management entity (MAM) sends the determined configuration to the Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) associated to the determined Access (A). The determined Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) configures the Access (A) based on the determined configuration received from the Multi Access Management entity (MAM). Furthermore, the invention relates to corresponding devices, modules and software.

    • A method and arrangement for making a handover decision in a multi-access communication network is disclosed. A first set of criteria is determined for when a handover between at least two access paths should be performed and a report is sent when at least one criterion of a first set of criteria is fulfilled. A second set of criteria is determined for when a handover between said at least two access paths should be performed and a report is sent when at least one criterion of said second set of criteria is fulfilled. One or more data sessions of at least one user terminal network are determined to be handed over based on the sent reports and a core network anchor and a terminal anchor are directed to execute a handover by re-routing said determined data sessions from one access path to an alternative access path.
