    • Engaging a plurality of users in an interactive activity in an educational environment includes receiving information that corresponds to an annotation entered by a first user of a first subordinate device of a plurality of subordinate devices. A representation of the annotation entered by the first user while the first user is annotating on the first subordinate device is presented, using a processor, on an instructor device. Information is received that corresponds to an annotation entered by a second user of a second subordinate device of the plurality of subordinate devices. A representation of the annotation entered by the second user is presented on the second the instructor device using the processor while the second user is annotating on the second subordinate device and while the instructor device simultaneously presents the representation of the annotation entered by the first user on the first subordinate device.

    • The disclosed inventions and embodiments relate to the propagation of information among workflow applications used by a design project such as a construction design project and the creation and use of dimensioned and animated models for such projects. The workflow applications may be extended to enable participation in the information sharing or the system may provide functionality external to the tools that facilitates the participation of the tools. Information from various sources, including the workflow applications and third party sources, can be represented and modeled in an animation system. Sometimes the propagation is enabled in part by a store of information that also enabled reuse and reporting. Information used and generated by the various workflow applications is kept consistent among the different workflow applications and among the different representations of that information.

    • The present invention relates to an interfacial method of preparing ester-substituted diaryl carbonates. The method includes the steps of: forming a reaction mixture comprising phosgene, an ester-substituted phenol, an organic solvent, and a catalyst selected from the group consisting of a tertiary amine catalyst and a phase transfer catalyst, said reaction mixture having an organic phase and an aqueous phase, wherein said aqueous phase has a brine strength; allowing the reaction mixture to react wherein during the reaction, (i) the aqueous phase has a pH, and the pH is adjusted, if necessary, by the addition of an alkali metal hydroxide solution in amounts such that the pH is greater than or equal to 9.0 during at least some portion of the reaction, and (ii) the brine strength of the aqueous phase is adjusted, if necessary, by varying the concentration of the alkali metal hydroxide solution being added to maintain the pH such that the brine strength is between 15% and a saturated brine solution during at least some portion of the reaction: thereby forming an ester-substituted diaryl carbonate, wherein the reaction mixture is formed with less than 15% water of formulation, and wherein the brine strength is maintained at or above 15% and the pH is maintained at or above 9 for a sufficient portion of the process that the ester-substituted diaryl carbonate is formed with a conversion of at least 90% and a selectivity of at least 98%.

    • A fuel injector for use in an injector arrangement including a pumping plunger, a pump chamber and a spill valve arrangement controlling communication between the pump chamber and a low pressure fuel reservoir. The fuel injector comprises a valve needle which is engageable with a seating to control fuel delivery through a fuel injector outlet opening, a first control chamber being arranged such that the fuel pressure therein acts on a surface associated with the valve needle and a second control chamber being arranged such that fuel pressure therein acts on a surface associated with the spill valve arrangement. The injector further comprises a piezoelectric actuator arrangement including a piezoelectric element having first and second ends, the first end being associated with the spill valve arrangement and the second end being associated with the valve needle such that, in use, operation of the spill valve arrangement and movement of the valve needle is controlled by controlling the energisation level of the piezoelectric element.
