    • In connecting a hub to a shaft, spaced outer and inner sleeves are provided with outer and inner cylindrical surfaces separated by insert elements which have an outwardly divergent conical surface. The sleeves are formed with a matching conical surface, at a cone angle in excess of the self holding angle. Upon tightening the conical elements against each other, conical surfaces thereof will slide against the conical surfaces of the matching cylindric element. The elements are formed with radially projecting outer flanges to fit over the edge of one of the sleeves, the other sleeve being of longer axial extent than the position of the elements, and formed with a groove in which a snap ring fits, to hold the elements, and the sleeves together in one assembly, from which no parts can become accidentally separated.

    • To secure a hub on a hollow shaft, a sleeve adapted to fit into the hollow shaft has, at one end, a cylindrical collar which is adapted to fit into the bore of the hub. The outer end of the collar has a serrated surface, and a portion of the outer surface of the sleeve, adjacent the collar, is likewise serrated, the serrations terminating in a groove, and the remainder of the sleeve being smooth. The sleeve has an inner conical surface into which a conical tension plug fits which, when tightened against a counter element, expands the sleeve and causes the serrated surfaces to bind against the inner surface of the shaft, and against the bore of the hub, respectively, the smooth surface of the sleeve centering and additionally frictionally engaging the shaft. In a preferred form, the tightening screw is an Allen head bolt which is constrained against axial movement in a recess of the plug, so that upon loosening movement of the bolt, the conical plug will disengage from the inner conical surface, and so that the connection can be released without further tools. A plastic or oil-resistant disk can be inserted between the counter elements for the bolt and the conical plugs to make the connection fluid-tight.

    • A pair of double-conically shaped elements can be tightened against each other by means of clamping screws, the conical surfaces sliding over matching conical surfaces formed at opposed faces of inner and outer sleeves, adapted to seat respectively on a shaft, and in a hub. To form one self-retaining assembly, the inner ends of the conical elements are formed with projecting shoulders, for example by placing snaprings thereover, which engage in grooves in the inner and outer sleeves, so that the various parts of the connection will always remain together.

    • To secure a hub to a shaft, inner and outer rings with matching conical surfaces are provided, located between the hub, and the shaft. The inner ring, where it bears against the shaft, is relieved and the relief is filled with a sleeve of a material which is soft with respect to that of the shaft to prevent scoring in case of slippage of the connection; the inner sleeve is, additionally, formed with an outwardly directed collar which fits snugly within the shaft to center the connection, prior to tightly clamping the inner and outer rings against each other by sliding of the conical surfaces. An outer holding ring engages in the outer rings to prevent their loss from the assembly.
