    • A navigation system is provided. A medium insertion port is disposed on the front surface of a main unit and a portable recording medium is loaded into or unloaded from the main unit through the medium insertion port. A display unit is disposed on the front surface of the main unit and can move between a closed position where the medium insertion port is covered and an opened position where the medium insertion port is exposed. A limitation section limits the movement of the display unit to the opened position. A limitation removing section removes the limitation by the limitation section. An operation section receives an operation on the navigation system. The operation section can receive an operation other than an operation to be intrinsically received by the operation section. The limitation removing section removes the limitation by the limitation section when the operation section receives the operation other than the operation to be intrinsically received.

    • An in-vehicle display system is installed in a vehicle for displaying information to a user. The system includes a display unit that displays information; an operation unit that is located separately from the display unit and that allows a user to perform user operations including a directional operation and a turning operation; and a receiver that receives user instructions for making entry of plural characters that can be displayed on the display unit, based on displayed content displayed on the display unit and the user operations made with the operation unit. The receiver receives: (i) a first one of the directional operation and the turning operation as the user instruction in order to select a group from amongst a plurality of groups displayed on the display unit each of the plurality of groups representing a plurality of characters which are candidates for entry, and (ii) a second one of the directional operation and the turning operation as the user instruction in order to select a character from amongst the plural characters included in the group that is selected by the first one of the directional operation and the turning operation.

    • An information processing device capable of processing navigation information is provided. Image processing means generates a signal for displaying a basic screen including a predetermined display element, to which a predetermined function is assigned, on a display device and outputs the signal to the display device. Detection means detects a user's operation of the predetermined display element displayed on the display device. Image generation means generates a superimposed display image for providing the predetermined function assigned to the predetermined display element when the operation is detected by the detection means. When the superimposed display image is generated by the image generation means, the image processing means generates a signal for displaying a superimposed screen, in which the superimposed display image is superimposed on the basic screen, on the display device and outputs the signal to the display device. The superimposed display image generated by the image generation means includes a relation display image which allows the user to visually understand a relation between the predetermined display element and the superimposed display image. The relation display image is generated so as to be continuously displayed even when a displayed content of the superimposed display image is updated.
