    • A device for detecting a rotating speed of a wheel of a vehicle, including an axle hub having a shaft portion, and a flange portion which extends radially outwardly from one of opposite ends of the shaft portion such that the wheel is secured to the flange portion. The shaft portion has an intermediate section at which the axle hub is rotatably supported by a stationary member via a bearing. The detecting device further includes a rotor secured to a part of the shaft portion of the axle hub remote from the flange portion so that the rotor is rotatable with the wheel. The rotor has an externally toothed section which has a multiplicity of teeth spaced apart from each other in a circumferential direction of the rotor. A speed detector is supported by the stationary member, so as to detect the teeth of the toothed section of the rotor during rotation of the rotor. A covering member attached to the stationary member cooperates with the same to cover the rotor.

    • An anti-skid apparatus for installation in a vehicle braking system having a regulator valve for producing a hydraulic power pressure in accordance with a hydraulic braking pressure from a master cylinder. A control cylinder is disposed in a hydraulic circuit connecting the master cylinder to a wheel brake cylinder, and comprises a cylinder body having a cylinder bore defined therein and a piston axially slidably disposed within the cylinder bore. This piston forms at its one end a pressure chamber communicating with the wheel brake cylinder, and is applied at its the other end with the hydraulic power pressure from the regulator. Disposed in the control cylinder is a normally open cut-off valve which normally permits the flow of the hydraulic braking pressure from the master cylinder into the pressure chamber and blocks the flow of the hydraulic braking pressure when the piston moves to an extent more than a predetermined distance from its initial position for decreasing the volume of the pressure chamber. And, a changeover valve is disposed between the regulator valve and the control cylinder, and applies the hydraulic power pressure to the piston or discharges it from the control cylinder.

    • An anti-lock brake system for a wheel wherein a fluid pressure is applied to a wheel cylinder, through a solenoid-operated valve device and a flow control device. Upon detection of locking of the wheel, the valve device is brought into an anti-lock state in which the valve device is alternately placed in its pressure-increase and pressure-decrease positions. The flow control device is normally placed in a first mode for a sufficient flow of the fluid into the wheel cylinder, and is operated in a second mode with the valve device placed in the anti-lock state. In the second mode, the flow control device decreases the rate of fluid flow to the wheel cylinder, with an increase in a difference between the power source pressure and the wheel cylinder pressure. An assisting device is provided for enabling the flow control device to adequaely effect the first mode of operation for at least a period between commencement of brake application and commencement of anti-lock operation of the valve device. The assisting device further assists the flow control device to adequately effect the second mode of operation at least while the valve device is in the pressure-increase position during the anti-lock operation of the valve decive.

Also included is an electric motor, a pump driven by the electric motor, an accumulator adapted to accumulate fluid pressure generated by the pump, a control piston reciprocating under the fluid pressure to open and close the first valve, a second valve adapted to supply the fluid pressure to the control piston upon normal rolling of wheels so as to move the control piston to a non-operative position while excluding the fluid pressure from the control piston when the wheels are likely to lock up, and a third valve having first and second valves and controlling the fluid pressure to be supplied to a hydraulic chamber in response to depression and release of a brake pedal. In this arrangement, a relief valve is provided in a seat member of the first valve so that when the fluid pressure exceeds a predetermined upper limit, it is opened to introduce hydraulic fluid to a drain line through the second valve.

The regulator regulates the pressure of the pumped fluid at a value higher than the pressure from the wheel brake cylinder by a predetermined value.

    • A brake fluid pressure control valve assembly includes a body having a single cylinder bore communicating inlet and outlet ports connected to a brake master cylinder and wheel brake cylinder, respectively. The cylinder bore accommodates the components of two separate valves, namely first, second and third seat members and first and second valve elements brought into and out of contact with seat surfaces of these seat members, as well as a spring interposed between the two valve bodies, a pressure reducing piston and a by-pass piston. The third seat member has seal rings fitted in first and second annular grooves formed in its outer periphery for providing a seal between the outer periphery of the third seat member and wall surfaces of axially extending bores in the first and second seat members. The diameter of first and second end portions outwardly of the first and second annular grooves, respectively, of the third seat member is such that these end portions will not contact the wall surfaces of the axially extending bores of the first and second seat members, respectively.

    • An actuator for a wheel anti-lock system, which comprises a first conduit connected to a brake master cylinder and a second conduit connected to a brake wheel cylinder. To the second conduit, there is connected a reservoir for reserving a predetermined amount of working liquid. Between the first conduit and the second conduit, there is interposed a feed change-over valve for opening or closing the communication between them. Between the second conduit and the reservoir, there is interposed a release change-over valve for opening or closing the communication between them. In the first conduit, there is disposed a normally open cut valve for closing the first conduit when in a skid control. To the first conduit, there is connected a pressure transducer in parallel with the cut valve. The pressure transducer includes: a body having a smaller bore connected to the brake master cylinder and a larger bore connected to the brake wheel cylinder; a stepped piston fitted in the two bores; and a spring for biasing the stepped piston toward the smaller portion thereof. When in the skid control, the pressure transducer feeds the second conduit with a pressure liquid, a predetermined amount larger than the pressure liquid which is fed from the 2 master cylinder, to the pressure transducer.
