    • In the balance adjustment using a pilot signal in a distortion detector and a distortion canceller of a feed-forward amplifier for amplifying a CDMA transmission signal, a pilot code is spread by a long code different from that of the CDMA transmission signal to obtain the pilot signal. The pilot signal is converted to a signal of the transmission frequency band, and the converted signal is injected into the transmission signal at the input side of the amplifier. The pilot signal frequency band is detected from the output of an auxiliary amplifier of the distortion canceller and converted to the base band, thereafter being despread to detect the pilot signal (code).

    • In a receiver comprising a receiver filter (12) with a frequency attenuation band and a pilot oscillator (25) for generating a pilot oscillation signal with a pilot frequency in the frequency attenuation band, a coupler (26) couples the pilot oscillation signal and a filtered receiver signal of the receiver filter to form a coupled signal. A branching filter (27) branches the amplified signal into the amplified receiver signal component and the amplified pilot oscillation signal. A pilot signal component detector unit (28) detects the amplified pilot oscillation signal component to produce a direct pilot signal. A failure monitoring unit (29) monitors the direct pilot signal to produce a fault signal when the direct pilot signal is found faulty.

    • In a feed-forward amplifier which has an error detection circuit for detecting a nonlinear distortion component of a main amplifier and an error rejection circuit for amplifying the detected distortion component by an auxiliary amplifier and injecting it into the main amplifier to cancel an error component, a first pilot signal is injected into a signal input path and a second pilot signal is injected into a signal amplification path of the error detection circuit. A first variable attenuator and a first variable phase shifter of the error detection circuit are adjusted by a control circuit so that the level of the first pilot signal component on an error injection path of the error rejection circuit decreases to minimum. A second variable attenuator and a second variable phase shifter of the error rejection circuit are adjusted by the control circuit so that the level of the second pilot signal component on a signal output path decreases to a minimum. The first pilot signal component which appears on the signal output path is rejected by a filter or cancelled by supplying the error injection path or signal output path with the first pilot signal after adjusting its amplitude and phase. Alternatively, the frequency of the first pilot signal to be injected into the signal input path is spread to lower the level of the first pilot signal per unit spectrum which appears on the signal output path.

    • A filter is provided which comprises a single dielectric, and a line conductor and a ground conductor disposed on the dielectric. The line conductor includes first and second line conductor sections having opposed portions defining an open gap therebetween to form a capacitive coupling section. The edge lines of the opposed portions of the first and second conductor sections defining the open gap therebetween are substantially elongated relative to the line width of the corresponding conductor sections. The thus constructed filter is capable of suppressing a variation in the normalized J-inverter value even if dimensional errors relative to the design specifications due to overetching or underetching involved during the manufacture.

    • A center conductor having a length L1, which is equivalent in electrical length to one quarter wavelength, and ground conductors disposed on the opposite sides of the center conductor with a gap portion therebetween in coplanar manner are formed on a dielectric substrate. The center conductor and the ground conductors located on the opposite sides thereof, and are connected together by shorting ends. This results in the formation of corner areas, respectively, whereby obtaining a coplanar waveguide resonator. An edge line of the shorting end is recessed to have a curve configuration so that each corner area has an angle greater than 90 degrees, which reduces power current concentration at the corner points in the respective corner areas.
