    • Optimized control algorithms for a vehicle automatic climate control system (ACCS) are developed using math-based models of the vehicle, the ACCS and a vehicle occupant. The models are cross-coupled in closed-loop fashion with feedback from both vehicle systems and occupant. A first feedback loop including the vehicle and the ACCS, simulates how the ACCS interacts with the cabin environment; and a second feedback loop including the vehicle, the ACCS and the occupant, simulates how the occupant will adjust the ACCS to optimize comfort. When the system arrives at a control algorithm that satisfies control objectives and optimizes occupant comfort, an auto-code generation tool is used to create program code directly from the control model, which may be downloaded into a test vehicle for final system confirmation and calibration.

Each of the plurality of plates has a plate length extending along a plate longitudinal axis between first and second ends.     • The subject invention includes a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) assembly having a housing with an inlet and at least one outlet for directing a flow of air into a passenger compartment. An evaporator core is disposed within the housing downstream of the inlet and upstream from the outlet. A heater core is disposed within the housing between the evaporator core and the outlet with the heater core having an upstream surface generally facing the evaporator core and a downstream surface generally facing the outlet. The heater core includes a first portion and a second portion being angled relative to the first portion such that the upstream surface of the first portion at least partially faces the upstream surface of the second portion to define an angled heater core facing the evaporator core wherein air flowing over the upstream surfaces is evenly distributed across both of the first and second portions, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the heater core.

    • The subject invention provides a heat transfer device (24) for controlling the temperature of an instrument panel (18) extending from and under a windshield (16) of a vehicle (10). Sunlight (22) passes through the windshield (16), thereby heating the surface of the instrument panel (18). The instrument panel (18) then transfers the heat to an interior compartment (14) of the vehicle (10) affecting the thermal comfort of a passenger. The heat transfer device (24) directly removes the heat stored in the instrument panel (18) to limit the transfer of heat from the instrument panel (18) to the interior compartment (14). Preferably, the heat transfer device (24) circulates a flow of cooling air (40) over the surface of the instrument panel (18) to remove the heat stored therein. As such, the heat transfer device (24) limits the heat transfer into and thereby cools the interior compartment (14) of the vehicle (10) to meet the desired thermal comfort level of the passenger in less time and with less energy.
