    • One embodiment relates to a computer system comprising at least one host, at least one object addressable storage (OAS) system and at least one communication medium that couples the at least one host to the at least one OAS system. The at least one OAS system has a plurality of storage devices and stores a plurality of content units on the plurality of storage devices. Each of the at least one host and the at least one OAS system has software that provides a OAS interface so that each one of the content units stored on the OAS system may be identified between the at least one host and the at least one OAS using an object identifier. The computer system maps the object identifier for a first of the plurality of content units to at least one of the plurality of storage devices over at least one first path. In response to a failure that prevents the at least one host from accessing the first content unit via the at least one first path, the computer system is automatically reconfigured to establish at least one previously non-established second path that enables the at least one host to access the first content unit using the object identifier for the first content unit.

    • A dynamically upgradeable disk array chassis, and a method for dynamically upgrading a data storage system. The dynamically upgradeable disk array chassis includes a serial bus having a first bus for passing data in one direction and a second bus for passing data in the opposite direction. A shunt connects the first and second buses in a normal state. The shunt has a switched state in which each of the first and second buses is coupled to a separate output from the chassis. The chassis includes an environmental monitor connected to a communication path. Upon connecting a new disk array chassis to an active disk array chassis, the environmental monitor communicates through the communication path before switching the shunt to connect the serial bus with the serial bus of the new disk array chassis. The disk array chassis may include a diplexer for connecting the communication path to the separate outputs of the shunt and for combining the communication path signals with the serial path signals in one direction and for separating these signals in the other direction. The environmental monitor path communications and the serial bus communications can take place over a single twinax cable.

    • Described are systems and methods of migrating data from a source virtual array to a destination virtual array transparently with respect to a management application program executing on a host and using management information to send management messages to the virtual arrays. Data from the source virtual array are copied to the destination virtual array during a data migration event. First and second virtual array management interfaces are associated with the source and destination virtual arrays, respectively. The first and second virtual array management interfaces are exchanged during the data migration event so that the virtual array management interface associated with the destination virtual array becomes associated with the source virtual array and the virtual array management interface associated with the source virtual array becomes associated with the destination virtual array.

    • The present invention relates to a method for excising a nucleic acid sequence from the genome of a plant or a plant cell. This method is based on the steps of transforming a plant cell with a construct encoding a DNA double strand break inducing enzyme (DSBI), generating a transgenic plant line, performing a transient assay to analyze the functionality of the transgenic enzyme, crossing the plant line with a line containing a nucleic acid sequence to be excised and performing an immature embryo conversion or a tissue culture regeneration through callus formation. The method can also be reversed, which means that a plant cell is transformed with a construct encoding a nucleic acid sequence to be excised, and the crossing is performed with a plant line containing a DSBI. As an alternative to the crossing step, a re-transformation of a transgenic plant line with a second construct can also be performed. The invention is also directed to a plant obtained by this method, or progeny, propagation material, part, tissue, cell or cell culture, derived from such a plant. Finally, the invention relates to the use of a plant or progeny, propagation material, part, tissue, cell or cell culture, derived from this method, as aliment, fodder or seeds or for the production of pharmaceuticals or chemicals.
