摘要： In a calibration data input process, a carriage 5 is moved toward an ink sensor 19 to a prescribed position while the ink sensor 19 detecting levels of reflected light. Then the amount of reflected light is read for over a range wider than the width of the carriage 5 including a theoretical detecting position P2. An actual detecting position P1 is found based on the level of reflected light. The difference between the theoretical detecting position P2 and the actual detecting position P1 is calculated and is stored as the calibration value α in a first calibration data memory M1. Accordingly, the actual detecting position P1 is set as P2±α. The calibration value α is used in a calibration process to calibrate the detecting position, so that the level of reflected light can be detected with accuracy.

摘要： An image recording apparatus includes a conveying mechanism for conveying a recording medium in a conveying direction, and a scanning carriage including a recording head for and a detector. The detector detects a first edge and a second edge of the recording medium in a leading edge detection region and in an intermediate detection region located between the leading edge detection region and the trailing edge of the recording medium. The scanning carriage moves in a scanning direction orthogonal to the conveying direction. Moreover, the image recording apparatus includes a storing unit for storing a first position of the first edge and a second position of the second edge, which are detected by the detector. The image recording apparatus further includes a controller for controlling movement of the scanning carriage. The controller controls a moving speed of the scanning carriage, such that the detector detects across the recording medium in the scanning direction including the first edge and the second edge. The detector detects the first and the second edge according to the first position of the first and the second position of the second edge in a leading edge detection region.

摘要： In a data processing device capable of attachably and detachably providing an external memory unit to which data are written and from which data are read, the external memory unit being capable of storing data even when it is not provided on the data processing device, provided are discriminating means for discriminating whether the external memory unit is provided on the data processing device, judging means for judging whether predetermined kind of data are stored in the external memory unit in case that it is discriminated that the external memory unit is provided on the data processing device, and another judging means for judging at least whether the predetermined kind of data stored in the external memory unit are operable in case that it is judged by the judging means that the predetermined kind of data are stored in the external memory unit. Thus, since a conventional check operation for the external memory unit is not executed, in the data processing device according to the present invention, when the predetermined kind of data are stored, the predetermined kind of data are not destroyed.

摘要： A technique is proposed to provide an appropriate notification in accordance with the state of occurrence of conveyance errors. The level of maintenance required to normalize a conveying function is determined depending on the number of errors, and a notification is provided by displaying a message to a user or by transmitting a message to a service center depending on the level of maintenance. Since the message to the user indicates a specific content of maintenance to normalize the conveying function, the user can normalize the conveying function by taking appropriate measures. On the other hand, since the message to the service center indicates the required level of maintenance, a service person of the service center can normalize the conveying function by going to a place where a multi-function machine, for example, is installed and repairing the multi-function machine.
