    • In a starter, an electromagnetic switch is mounted to a seating. A lead wire of an exciting coil is led to an outside of a switch case by a coil-leading portion and is connected to a male terminal, which is fixed to the coil-leading portion by welding. The coil-leading portion is integrally provided with an end plate portion of a bobbin around which the exciting coil is wound. The coil-leading portion passes through and projects from a bottom surface of the switch case to the outside. A metal member, in a form of a plate, is insert-molded in the seating. A 50 terminal is provided on an end of the metal member and a female terminal is provided on an opposite end of the metal member. When the electromagnetic switch is mounted to a predetermined position of the seating, the female terminal engages with the male terminal.

    • In a magnet switch for a starter, a first contact portion and a second contact portion are connected in parallel between a battery and a motor. The first contact portion makes contact through a resistive component so that the motor starts rotation at low speed. By this, a pinion is pushed in an axial direction by an axial component of splines and brought into mesh with a ring gear in a condition that its rotation is restricted. Thereafter, the second contact portion makes contact in accordance with further movement of a plunger so that electric power is fully supplied to the motor through the second contact portion, thereby starting engine. A fixed contact of the first contact portion is made of a carbon material. The resistive component is provided by the carbon material.

    • In a starter, a power supply terminal connected to a solenoid coil of a magnet switch and connectable to a starter external circuit is provided on an end cover. The power supply terminal includes a terminal metal member, a bimetal which interrupts electric conduction between the solenoid coil and the terminal metal member at the time of temperature rise above a predetermined temperature, and a casing contacting a foot part of the terminal metal member and encasing the bimetal therein. The bimetal responds to each of the excessive heating of the terminal metal member and excessive energization current to interrupt the conduction. In case of a single axis-type starter, the power supply terminal is provided on a recess so that the terminal metal member does not extend axially beyond the rear end face of the end cover.

    • The provision of an electric rotating machine which can reduce the mechanical and thermal loads applied thereto. Coil arms and coil trunks are provided in roughly parallel orientation to the end faces of an armature core only through insulating rings and insulating spacers. Metal brush is disposed on coil arms, whereby the overall length of the armature can be remarkably shortened. In addition, a commutator, conventionally necessary, can be eliminated, whereby the length of the production process for the armature can be reduced. Moreover, in an arrangement where projections of the upper coil arm are fit in holes of the insulating spacer, as the displacement of the upper coil arm towards the outer periphery is regulated, the length of the axial protrusions of the upper coil arm from the end face of the armature core can be minimized. In addition, as extension portions and of the coil trunks are strongly pressed against and fixed to the side of armature core by fixing members, the resistance to the centrifugal force can be remarkably improved. Furthermore, as the extension portion of the lower coil arm is fit in a recessed part of the insulating spacer, the displacement of the lower coil arm in the axial direction towards the outer periphery can be prevented. Accordingly, the electric rotating machine according to the present invention can withstand more than two times as high a rotational speed as that of the conventional structure.
