    • A centrifugal apparatus includes a rotor having a marker for generating an index signal, a motor for rotating the rotor, first and second detectors for detecting the index signal with rotation of the rotor to generate first and second detection signals, an input terminal for receiving supply power, a drive circuit for generating a drive signal from the supply power according to the first detection signal, and first and second switch circuits for controlling the supply of the drive signal to the motor. First and second judging portions are used to detect whether the first and second detection signals are respectfully generated within a given condition. The first judging portion operates the first switch circuit to stop the drive signal from being supplied to the motor when the first detection signal is not generated within the given condition, while said second judging portion operates the second switch circuit to stop the drive signal from being supplied to the motor when the second detection signal is not generated within the given condition. The first and second detectors, judging portions, and switch circuits, respectively, independently operate to provide double feedback loops, so that an overspeed or the like is prevented.

The detection range may be assigned to an inhibit deflection range due to whirling of the rotor.

    • The rotor data including a model name, a maximum rotating speed, and a rotor identification number of a rotor that is purchased after installation, for example, is stored through the inputting unit in an EEPROM in addition to the rotor data that was stored in the ROM before shipping. The inputted rotor data is displayed on the display in a list image together with the rotor data of the rotor data in the ROM to provide easily selection of the rotor. The inputted rotor data may be displayed with priority to the rotor data in the ROM. The rotor data may further include check data. It may be judged that the inputted rotor data is correctly inputted. If the rotor data is incorrectly inputted, an error message is displayed and the rotary data is not stored. If the rotor data is correctly inputted, the rotary data is registered in the RAM.

    • According to an aspect of the invention, a centrifuge includes: a rotor for separating samples; a motor for driving and rotating the rotor; a drive shaft for connecting together the motor and the rotor; a rotation sensor for detecting at least one of the rotation speed of the motor and the rotor; and a displacement sensor for detecting the swinging motion of the rotor or the drive shaft, wherein, after one of speed of the motor and the rotor is accelerated up to previously set rotation speed, when the swinging amount of the rotor or the drive shaft is equal to or more than preset allowable value, the supply of power to the motor is stopped to decelerate the motor, wherein, during the deceleration, signal from the displacement sensor is compared with the preset allowable value, and wherein when the signal from the displacement sensor becomes equal to or less than the preset allowable value, the motor is accelerated.

    • A management system for use in a centrifuge equipped with a detachable rotor which is rotatable so as to separate density-different samples by a centrifugal force due to the rotation. The management system is for managing the lifetime of the rotor on the basis of the detection results of an operated-condition detector for detecting operated conditions such as the number of times of rotation, running time and rotational speed of the rotor. The management system includes a data storing device which is provided on the rotor to be rotatable therewith and is composed of a magnetic recording medium to allow keeping data relating to the operated conditions of the rotor. Also included in the management system is a data processing unit coupled through a data reading and writing device such as a magnetic head to the data keeping device and also coupled to the operated-condition detector to be responsive to the operated conditions. The data processing unit reads out previous data from the data keeping device at the time of start of operation of the centrifuge, processes the operated conditions from the detector together with the read previous data to write on the data storing device new data produced by the data processing.
