    • This invention addresses the problem of latency of response regarding information relying on an IMEISV from a CN. This is possible by defining the early RRC connection bits' indication to determine the supported signalling schemes and providing the IMEISV information from the terminal to the network. After this point the CN is able providing this mapping information to the radio access network before actual radio links are utilized. The idea here is for early RRC message information to be used for indicating what version of bitmap correction terminal capabilities refers to and what procedures can be utilized while waiting for this bit map information from the CN. Using this approach the length of the early RRC message can be kept short, the content of corrections can be well defined saving signalling bits, and the concern of a fast available indication on the connection set-up phase can still be addressed.

    • When employing HARQ in soft handover (SHO) in a mobile communication system, a mobile station in communication with multiple base stations is signaled by each of the base stations when a packet sent by the mobile station is correctly received. However, while one or more base stations may have received the transmission correctly, others may not have, and retransmission may be called for. To address the possibility of having to resend such a packet, the mobile station of the invention retransmits only if a selected number of the base stations received the transmission incorrectly and does not if at least one base station received the original transmission correctly. The mobile transmits at a rate selected according to a rule from data rate information or signaling received from one or more of the base stations. The network is then able to retrieve the packet from one or more of the base stations which have received it correctly and to supply it to another or others which have not.

    • In order to enable a more efficient use of an available transmission capacity, a transmitting device (10) assigns at least one identifier in common to at least two receiving devices (20, 30, 40). Further, it signals the at least one identifier to each of the receiving devices. A receiving device (20) receives and registers such a common identifier. Thereafter, the transmitting device announces a respective transmission of data packets for at least one of the receiving devices on a transmission channel by signaling the at least one common identifier. The receiving device (20) receives and detects such an identifier, which is used by the transmitting device (10) for announcing a transmission of data packets. The receiving device then extracts data packets for the receiving device from data packets on the transmission channel announced by the detected identifier.

    • In a mobile telecommunications system, received transport channels are checked for a correct checksum or for a transport format combination indicator (TFCI) and correctness of reception of said channels is declared according to said step of checking. For instance, an operating WCDMA cellular system determines whether the frame reception is correct or if the frame is synchronized by determining whether a CRC checksum is present and correct and, if so, declaring correct reception of the downlink and, if not, determining in the terminal from any transport format combination indicator (TFCI) signal present in the downlink whether a discontinuous transmission (DTX) frame is present or not, and if not, declaring incorrect reception of the downlink, but if so, declaring correct reception of the downlink. Additionally, quality information obtained from the DTX frame can be used in an outer loop power control quality target setting.
