    • A bookmark that includes a light which can be carried by a book to light a page presented for viewing for reading. A portion of the bookmark is manipulable relative to another portion of the bookmark between a bookmark position and a light operating position with one of the portions receivable between a pair of pages of the book underlying the page presented for viewing that is lit by the light. One portion preferably includes a segment and the other portion preferably includes a segment with a joint that preferably includes a hinge disposed therebetween. A position actuated switch cooperates with at least one of the segments to turn on the light when the bookmark is manipulated into the light operating position. Such a bookmark can be configured to provide additional functions such as a magnifier, a picture frame, a clock and/or a calculator.

    • An optically or electronically transparent keyboard is disclosed having a key support, a display area, and keyboard transparency enabling keyboard operation from the front or rear. A keyboard, preferably of the QWERTY variety, is provided with transparent keyboard sections overlying one another. The keyboard sections when open dispose keyboard halves. QWERTY alignment is the same on the front and backside of the keyboard so that data entry is intuitive. Operation of the folding transparent keyboard can occur conventionally on a support surface or be enabled by support of the keyboard and miniaturized device in the palms of the user. In the palms of the user, the backside keyboard can be used with transparent viewing of the finger input. The sides of the keyboard are ergonomically shaped to position the hands properly, give better control of the keyboard while also making it easier to enter data.

    • A golf swing training device includes a pad having a light-reactive material on one side of the pad, and an indicator having a light source capable of striking the light-reactive material on the pad and creating a visual representation of the light on the pad. The pad includes printed indicia on the light-reactive material in order to illustrate the proper alignment and path for a putting stroke. An individual can place a golf ball on the pad and attach the indicator to the putter, and perform a putting stroke to strike the golf ball on the pad. The movement path of the putter head over the pad is visually illustrated by the reaction of the light source with the light-reactive material such that the individual can compare the actual putting stroke indicated by the light source path on the pad to the printed proper path indicia for the putting stroke. The visual representation of the actual path fades in a short amount of time such that the individual can perform subsequent putting strokes in order to improve the correspondence between the actual putting stroke and the optimal stroke represented on the pad.

    • A machine for treating a surface area within a boundary perimeter includes a self propelled chassis having a surface treating device mounted on it. A computing section is mounted on the chassis and a powered wheel (or each of plural powered wheels) has a motor module for receiving command signals from the computing section. A position sensor is coupled to the computing section for generating a feedback signal representing the actual position of the machine. A data loading device coacts with the computing section for transmitting data to such computing section. A data file stores graphic data developed from a graphic depiction representing the surface area to be treated as well as other data developed in other ways. The data file coacts with the computing section and transmits graphic and other data to it. The computing section is arranged for processing the data and the feedback signal and responsively generating command signals directed to each motor module. Such modules, and the motors controlled thereby, propel the machine over the surface area selected to be treated. A method for treating a surface area is also disclosed.

    • A device for displaying power consumption rates includes a register for storing and displaying the cost of a unit of power, e.g., the cost per kilowatt hour as assessed by the local power company. A first display indicates the cost of power consumed over a first time period (such as an hour) based upon the then-existing instantaneous rate of power use. A second display indicates the cost of power projected to be consumed over a second time period such as a day, assuming that the then-existing instantaneous rate of power usage is maintained. A third display indicates the cost of power projected to be consumed over a third time period such as 30 days while fourth, fifth and sixth displays provide the instantaneous rate at which power is being consumed as well as totalized actual costs over two different time periods. A register is equipped with structure for adjustment whereby the cost stored in the register of a unit of power may be changed. The information displayed by the device may thereby be kept current and accurate even though electrical rates may change. The front panel of the device is "human engineered" for easy readability and first presentation of the most important information.
