    • A shaft seal which is in particular suitable for vacuum pumps, such as screw pumps, comprises an inner sealing ring (18) connectable with the shaft, and an outer sealing ring (20) surrounding said inner sealing ring (18). In the outer sealing ring (20) a circumferential groove (30) is provided into which seal gas is adapted to be fed via a feed channel (22). Further, a seal gas disk (34) is connectable with the shaft (10), the seal gas disk (34) comprising a projection (32) extending towards said groove (30). Thereby a seal gas chamber (28) is defined in the groove (30). The seal gas chamber (28) is connected with a sealing gap (40) provided between the inner and the outer sealing ring (18,20) via a chamber gap (36), through which the seal gas is adapted to flow. Adjacent to the sealing gap (40) a separating chamber (42) defined by the inner and the outer sealing ring (18,20) is arranged, the separating chamber (42) being connected with a discharge channel (44) for the purpose of discharging the seal gas.

    • A screw vacuum pump (1) has rotors (5), bearings (7, 8), a casing (4), a suction side (15), and a delivery side (24). Each of the rotors includes at least two rotor sections, a suction side rotor section (17) and a delivery side rotor section (18). The two rotor sections are separately constructed and joined together in a positive, form-fitting or friction locking manner. The suction side rotor section is preferably larger in diameter and constructed with looser tolerances as compared to the delivery side rotor section. The suction side rotor is preferably of an inexpensive material such as aluminum while the discharge side rotor is preferably constructed of a higher performance material such as stainless steel. The rotor sections are supported on a rotor shaft (6) into which cooling fluid is injected through a cooling pipe (33). Cooling fluid from the shaft is also circulated through the bearings and passages in the casing eventually reaching a sump (37) in preparation for recirculation.

    • A vacuum pump for producing a vacuum in a space which is to be evacuated comprises a housing (10) having a cylindrical inner space (22). An expeller (26) is arranged eccentrically in the inner space (22). A helical sealing element (34) is provided between the expeller (26) and an inner wall (38) of the housing (10) for forming at least one crescent-shaped conveying space. The housing (10) or the expeller (26) are connected to a drive device (44) for producing a relative rotary movement between the housing (10) and the expeller (26). The vacuum pump is configured as a dry-running vacuum pump.

    • A vacuum pump (10) comprises at least one rotor shaft (12) having a rotor section (14) with a rotor (16), a bearing section (18) with a bearing (20), and a shaft sealing system (22) that is axially situated between the rotor section (14) and the bearing section (18). The shaft sealing system (22) axially comprises, on the side of the rotor, a gas seal (32) and, on the side of the bearing, an oil seal (34). The shaft sealing system (22) additionally comprises, between the gas seal (32) and the oil seal (34), a separating chamber, which surrounds the rotor shaft (12) and is ventilated by at least one separating chamber ventilation duct (60, 62). This enables the pressure difference that decreases via the gas seal and the pressure difference that decreases via the oil seal to be adjusted. An appropriate adjustment can prevent oil on the bearing side from passing through the oil seal toward the separating chamber.
