    • An optical triplexer transceiver that utilizes parallel signal detection for use in broadband passive optical networks (B-PONs). The triplexer transceiver includes an optical filter comprising a first port coupled to a laser for receiving upstream optical data signals, a second port for passing the upstream optical data signals to a network, and for receiving combined downstream optical data and video signals from the network, the video signals modulated by subcarrier modulation (SCM), and a third port for communicating the combined downstream optical data and video signals to a photodetector constructed and arranged for simultaneously receiving the combined downstream optical data and video signals and converting the optical data and video signals to electrical signals. A plurality of filters are coupled to the photodetector for separating the combined downstream data and video signals, including a low-pass filter for passing the downstream data signals, and a band-pass filter for passing the video signals. The video signals are coherently detected in a number of stages corresponding to stages of SCM applied to the video signals. The triplexer transceiver is adapted to receive optical video signals that have been subjected first and second stages of SCM to move the spectra of the SCM video signals to a higher frequency range that does not overlap with a frequency range of the baseband data signals.

    • An optical triplexer transceiver that utilizes parallel signal detection for use in broadband passive optical networks (B-PONs).     • A differential delay detection system and method includes an optical splitter to split an incoming optical signal between a first path and a second path. The first path includes a cross-polarization interferometer configured to separately generate polarization independent outputs using split paths and to generate cross-polarization interference outputs, and a polarization demultiplexer configured to combine the polarization independent outputs and the cross-polarization interference outputs from the cross-polarization interferometer with updated coefficients received from the second path to remove the cross-polarization mixed signals. The second path includes a training signal receiver configured to compute the updated coefficients and output the updated coefficients to the polarization demultiplexer.

    • An apparatus includes an interleaver configuration for at least one of combining or separating odd and even channel groups to achieve channel density doubling; and an optical equalizer for suppressing inter symbol interference within the channels to provide intra-channel equalizing in the optical path, the equalizer being integrated into the interleaver. Preferably, optical equalizer and interleaver are integrated together as a single monolithic device, the optical equalizer includes a passband that has a dip in the channel center to achieve a raised-cosine filtering profile in the optical signal path to achieve inter-symbol interference ISI suppression, and the equalizer includes integration into the optical path of the interleaver to realize a monolithic device combining or separating odd and even channel groups to achieve channel density doubling.     • An apparatus includes a generator for obtaining at least two lightwave carriers from a single lightwave source, at least two modulators for selectively varying the lightwave carriers according to respective data signals; and a coupler for combining the modulated lightwave carriers for optical transmission. The generator can be one of an optical carrier suppression or phase modulation. The apparatus can employ a filter for separating the lightwave carriers by a fixed wavelength spacing before selectively varying the lightwave carriers according to the respective data signals. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the respective data signals are two 50 Gbit/s differential quadrature phase key DQPSK signals, each 50 Gbit/s DQPSK signal including a first 25 Gbit/s data signal out of phase with a second 25 Gbit/s data signal for selectively varying a respective one of the two lightwave carriers, and the combined modulated lightwave carriers are a 100 Gbit/s DQPSK signal. Preferably, the apparatus includes a modulator for pulse shaping the lightwave carriers.
