    • A probe actutaed switch comprising a plurality of electrical contact blades and a first and second actuator for engagement with a first and second probe. The actuators are slidably mounted and positioned to engage selected ones of the contact blades. Each actuator defines a rest position and is biased to that rest position by selected contact blades. First and second probe guides are aligned for engagement with the first and second probes. Each guide is adapted to guide a respective probe into engagement with a respective actuator. A latch mechanism is positioned to releasably latch the first actuator in its rest position. As the probes are inserted into the respective probe guides, they are guided into engagement with the actuators. The second actuator is thereupon moved from its rest position to alter the electrical connections of selected ones of the plurality of contacts. The first actuator is held in its rest position until the first probe is fully inserted. The first actuator is then released by the latch and is rapidly moved from its rest position to alter the electrical connections of selected other ones of the plurality of contacts. When the probes are removed from the probe guides, the actuators return to their respective initial rest positions and the contact blades return to their respective initial electrical connections.

    • A portable, automated illumination device is provided that is capable of illuminating an item stored on or near the device, such items may include eyeglasses, drinking cups, or other household articles. In one embodiment, the device includes a top section platform that has a sloped, nearly vertical edge to retain items and a sensor that instantly illuminates a light in response to motion adjacent to the device. In certain embodiments, the light provides illumination of the surrounding area to allow a user to find an item stored in or near the device, or to locate a more significant light source. Preferably, the light is illuminated for a certain period of time, after which the device resets to be triggered by subsequent motion, heat, or other stimuli detectable by the sensor.

    • A video tape cassette rapid rewinding/fast forwarding is characterized by a housing on a surface of which are drive and idler sprockets. To rapidly advance or rewind a cassette, the cassette is placed on the surface to extend the sprockets into its tape reels, with winding or rewinding being determined by the orientation of the cassette and therefore the particular one of its reels engaged with the drive sprocket. A selected one of a pair of microswitches is actuated by the cassette in accordance with its orientation, and controls energization of an electric motor to rotate the drive sprocket in the appropriate direction. Releasable clips hold the cassette on the sprockets and the drive sprocket has tapered teeth, so that upon completion of forwarding or rewinding and termination of rotation of the reels, the cassette is forced off of the drive sprocket and away from the clips to deactuate the microswitch and deenergize the motor. The device may be operated by either self-contained batteries or external power.
