    • A battery-charging system is provided that does not require removal of batteries from an impact screwdriver (1) for recharging. The battery-charging system includes the impact screwdriver and a charger (20). The impact screwdriver (1) has a nose (3a) to which a tool bit is attached. The impact screwdriver additionally includes a grip handle (4) containing a battery unit (5) whose terminals (10) for recharging are exposed in a surface of a protrusion (7) of the grip handle. The charger (20) includes a charger circuit encased in an enclosure having a base (21) covered with a housing (22). The housing of the charger is provided with a first receiving recess (29) which can receive the nose (3a) of the screwdriver and a second receiving recess (30) which can receive the protrusion (7) of the screwdriver. The system additionally includes a pair of charge terminals of the charger circuit that resiliently projects into the second receiving recess (30). The charger circuit terminals are brought into electrical contact with the corresponding terminals in the protrusion of the impact screwdriver when the screwdriver is set on the charger. While the battery unit is charged, the entire impact screwdriver (1), not the battery unit alone, is set on the charger (20) with the nose placed in the first receiving recess and the protrusion in the second receiving recess.

    • A driver drill that can effectively prevent erroneous clutch operation in a drill mode is provided. A flat washer positioned between steel balls for locking an internal gear and a coil spring is rotatable by rotative operation of a mode-change ring. Also, protruding streaks are provided on a small-diameter unit of a second gear case around which a flat washer is externally mounted. The protruding streaks interfere with internal projections on an inner circumference of the flat washer at its predetermined rotating position to regulate a forward movement of the flat washer. When a drill mode is selected with the mode-change ring, the flat washer is locked by the protruding streaks.

    • An electric power tool is provided including a main housing (2) assembled by fitting together right and left casing halves (3, 4), a drive unit (5), a spindle (14) coupled to the drive unit, and a change ring (20). The drive unit includes a DC motor (6), a gear assembly (7), and first and second gear cases (9, 15). The aluminum-alloy second gear case (15) is provided with a connecting portion (17) which has an outer shape that smoothly and continuously connects with the front end of the main housing and which is secured to the main housing by four screws (24) in the axial direction toward the rear portion of the tool. In addition, the second gear case includes a small-diameter journal bearing (16) which extends forwardly from the front end of the connecting portion (17) within the change ring so as to support the spindle of the tool.
