    • A multi-color image forming apparatus which comprises a rotatably supported photoreceptor drum movable sequentially past a first charging station at which the photoreceptor drum is electrostatically charged; a first exposure station at which a first electrostatic latent image is formed on the photoreceptor drum; a first developing station at which a first developing unit is disposed for developing the first electrostatic latent image into a toner image with a first toner material; a second charging station at which the photoreceptor drum is again electrostatically charged; a second exposure station at which a second electrostatic latent image is formed on the photoreceptor drum; a second developing station at which a second developing unit is disposed for developing the second electrostatic latent image into a toner image with a second toner material; a transfer station at which the toner image is transferred onto a recording medium; and a cleaning station. To avoid a color mixing as a result of an mixture of the first toner material into the second developing unit, the first toner material mixing into the second developing unit is separated and recovered from the second developing unit. A manually operated switch and a control system are provided for manually controlling the separation and recovery of the first toner material from the second toner material.

    • A magnetic brush developing apparatus includes a material transport guide member extending from a developing material supply position to a developing region, in addition to a rotatable developing sleeve having an inwardly disposed rotatable manetic roller driven for rotation in the same direction as the sleeve. A clearance is maintained between the guide member and the outer peripheral surface of the developing sleeve to allow transport by the rotation of the magnetic roller of developing material, having magnetic carrier particles and electrically insulative toner particles, from the developing material supply position along the outer surface of the guide member to the developing region in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the magnetic roller and developing sleeve. Part of the used developing material is moved in a direction opposite to the direction of transportation of the supplied developing material through the clearance between the developing sleeve and the guide member by the rotation of the developing sleeve, so that undesirable exchanging between the fresh developing material and the used developing material is substantially prevented by the guide member.

    • A magnetic brush developing apparatus for use in an electrophotographic copying machine for developing an electrostatic image and utilizing a developer which is constituted by non-magnetic particles and magnetic particles. The apparatus includes a rotatable multipole magnetic member within a rotatable developing sleeve for transporting developing material affected by the magnetic member in a direction opposite the direction of rotation of the sleeve, at least one cleaning member for removing part of the developer which is at most only slightly affected by the magnetic member and transported in the direction of rotation of the sleeve, and at least one resilient scraping member for scraping the affected developer from the surface of the sleeve and being sufficiently resilient to allow the slightly affected developer material to pass between the scraping member and the sleeve so as to avoid buildup of the slightly affected developer between the scraping member and the sleeve.

    • The present invention provides a magnetic brush developing apparatus for developing latent electrostatic images with a particulate magnetic developer which comprises:(a) a rotatable non-magnetic developing sleeve,(b) first drive means connected to said sleeve for rotating said developing sleeve in a specified direction,(c) a magnetic roller rotatably disposed within the developing sleeve,(d) second drive means connected to said magnetic roller for rotating the magnetic roller in the same direction as the developing sleeve to transport said magnetic developer along the peripheral surface of the developing sleeve in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the developing sleeve,(e) a brush bristle height adjusting plate member having one end in pressing contact with the peripheral surface of said sleeve and a developer guide surface at an acute angle with respect to a tangent to said sleeve, said tangent extending in the direction of rotation of said sleeve, for scraping developer particles moving in the direction of rotation of said sleeve, from said sleeve and(f) a developer supplying means for supplying developer particles, through said developer guide surface of said brush bristle height adjusting plate member, to the peripheral surface of said sleeve to form bristle thereon; and whereby the length of the magnetic brush bristles formed by application of the developer particles to said sleeve can be controlled by adjusting the relative rate of rotation of said magnetic roller with respect to said sleeve.
