    • A PDA includes a printed-circuit board on which at least one printed antenna pair having two chip-like printed antennas, which receive linearly polarized signals and are disposed along axes orthogonal to each other, is mounted. In each of the printed antennas, an open end is formed of at least two antenna conductors separated from each other. Besides, in the printed-circuit board, a ground required by one or plural other modules is disposed so as to surround a surrounding area of at least three sides of four sides forming a rectangular section in each of the printed antennas, and each of the printed antennas is disposed and mounted so that a remaining one side faces an edge portion of the printed-circuit board. While the PDA can receive circularly polarized signals very effectively, the degree of freedom in layout is greatly expanded and miniaturization can be realized.

    • In a fixing apparatus and an image forming apparatus of the present invention, an external heating section is provided that includes: an external heating belt; two heat rollers suspending the external heating belt and pressed against a fixing roller via the external heating belt; and a release/contact mechanism for causing the two heat rollers to separate from or contact with the fixing roller. With the heat rollers separated from the fixing roller by the release/contact mechanism, the external heating belt and the fixing roller are in contact with each other and the external heating belt follows rotation of the fixing roller. As a result, a fixing apparatus is provided that includes an external release/contact mechanism that can quickly operate in a small space and at low power without encouraging deterioration of the belt member. An image forming apparatus provided with such a fixing apparatus is also provided.

    • The invention provides a chip-antenna, comprising: a base member including a mounting surface and made of at least one of dielectric ceramic and magnetic ceramic; at least two conductors disposed within said base member or on a surface of said base member, at least a portion of said conductors being substantially perpendicular to the mounting surface of said base member; a feeding electrode for applying a voltage to said conductors and disposed on the surface of said base member; a ground electrode disposed at least one on the surface of and within said base member; one of said conductors being served as a first conductor, one end of which is connected to said feeding electrode; the rest of said conductor being served as a second conductor, one end of which are connected to said ground electrode; and the other end of said first conductor and the other end of said second conductor being connected.

    • A helical antenna is provided in which a predetermined resonance frequency can be determined at the design stage. The helical antenna includes a conductor which is formed from copper or a copper alloy inside a base in the shape of a rectangular parallelopiped formed from a dielectric material having barium oxide, aluminum oxide and silica as main constituents and which is wound in a helical shape along the length of the base. In such a case, the resonance frequency f0 of the helical antenna and the inductance components L of the conductor satisfy the relationship: ln (L)=A0+A1.times.ln (f0), where ln is a natural logarithm, and A0 and A1 are constants. One end of the conductor is extended onto the surface of the base and forms a power feeding terminal connected to a power feeding terminal formed on the surface of the base for applying a voltage to the conductor, and the other end thereof forms a free end inside the base.
