    • A chain saw brake device that can instantly halt the rotation of a cutting chain when a motor drive switch is turned off. The chain saw brake device includes a brake band wound around a brake drum, such that by operating a hand guard and pulling the forward end of the brake band, the brake band is tightened around the brake drum, thereby stopping the cutting chain. The rear end of the brake band is fixed to a bent rod, and the bent rod is urged rearwardly by a coil spring when the drive switch is turned off, causing the brake band to tighten around the brake drum. By activating a trigger lever, the movable member, engaged with the trigger lever, is moved forwards, thereby pushing forwards the bent rod, and loosening the brake band.

    • The chain of an electromotive chain saw is quickly stopped by the combined use of an electric brake and a mechanical brake when a trigger member is turned off. The rear end of a brake band disposed to tighten a brake drum by operating a hand guard is secured to a bent rod. When the trigger member is released, the brake band is normally tightened around the outer periphery of a brake drum by the urging force of a coil spring. When the trigger member is released, a circuit provided with a brake winding is closed, thereby applying a dynamic braking force. When the dynamic brake force is applied, a centrifugal clutch is released quickly and the speed of stopping the brake drum is accelerated.

    • A boat has a propulsion unit and a steering system. The steering system includes a steering device actuated by an electric actuator. A steering wheel operated by an operator is electrically connected to the actuator. Detectors collect data regarding one or more of operation status of the steering wheel, running status of the boat, status of the propulsion unit, status of the electric actuator, and the like. In certain situations, the electric actuator may not be capable of providing a quick steering response. A controller weighs detected data to identify such situations and controls a propulsive force of the propulsion unit so as to restrain the propulsive force if necessary to maintain good steering response.

    • A boat steering system provides an operator with excellent efficiency and an excellent operation feel during direction guide member deflection by considering and making adjustments based on a running status of the boat. An ECU controls a direction guide member deflection angle limit. The ECU includes and/or communicates with detectors and the like for detecting one or more of an operation status corresponding to a steering wheel operation, a running status of the boat, recognizing a status of an outboard motor, and detecting a status of an electric motor that rotates an outboard motor. The ECU also controls a direction guide member deflection angle limit based on one or more of the detection values.
