    • In a prior-art variable venturi carburetor in which the cross-sectional area of venturi is automatically varied according to the amount of intake air to keep the flow rate of intake air or the vacuum generated at the venturi at a constant level, since the cross section of venturi changes rectangularly, fuel is concentratedly jetted only near the middle portion of the venturi, so that fuel is not uniformly mixed with air passing through the venturi. To overcome these drawbacks, a wall having a reverse trapezoidal recess is provided near the nozzle and further a pair of triangular slots or cutouts are formed near the lower end surface of the suction piston obliquely and symmetrically so as to slidably engage with the wall, with the result that the cross section of the venturi changes trapezoidally and therefore a stable mixture is obtained even when the engine is running at a low speed or being idled.

    • An exhaust gas control valve includes a valve seat, a valve plate having a first exhaust gas pressure receiving area corresponding to an opening area and a second exhaust gas pressure receiving area larger than the first area; and a spring for closing the valve. In a closed state, gas pressure during a low engine speed operation acts on only the first exhaust area for shutting the opening. In an intermediate state, the pressure during a the middle engine speed operation acts on the first and second areas for opening the opening but closing the valve by overlap of wall portions of the valve plate and the valve seat overlap. In an opening state, the pressure during a high engine speed operation acts on the first and second areas for forming a gap between the wall portions to pass the gas therethrough.

    • A support member 10 having a tubular portion 11 is joined at an end portion of a muffler pipe 1. The support member 10 forms a flange 12 as a valve seat and a support bracket 14. The support bracket 14 has a valve disk 20 supported rotatably via a hinge axis 15. The valve disk 20 has an outer peripheral portion 12 as a contact surface with the valve seat, and a weight 30 is welded to a bead portion 23 with an inner portion thereof projecting to the back face. A spring is wound around the hinge axis, with one end 18 engaging a back face of the valve wall 21 for the valve disk, the other end engaging a support bracket. The resonance frequency is decreased by the weight, thereby preventing the beat sound from arising in a normal range of the engine speed. The weight is welded to the bead portion, thereby not causing the outer peripheral portion 23 as the contact surface to be distorted.
