The second shaft is positioned adjacent to and parallel to the first shaft, is rotatably attached to the housing, and is linked to the shutter via the third link arm. The second link arm is attached to the second shaft in such a manner as to be restricted in relative rotation but capable of swinging about the second shaft, and is swing-driven by the first link arm.

    • A lawn mower comprises a power source for rotatably driving an output shaft, a housing having an interior space having a generally spiral-shaped portion, and a cutting blade disposed in the interior space of the housing and connected to the output shaft for rotation therewith to cut grass. The rotating cutting blade coacts with the spiral-shaped portion of the interior space to generate a swirling air flow that causes the cut grass to swirl within the interior space. A grass discharge passage communicates with the interior space of the housing and discharges therethrough grass cut by the cutting blade and swirling within the interior space of the housing. A pivotal shutter is pivoted about a generally vertical axis by manual operation of a control member to open and close the grass discharge passage. The pivotal shutter comprises a pivotal shaft and a unitary shutter member mounted on the pivotal shaft to undergo pivotal movement therewith for opening and closing the grass discharge passage.

    • A cutter housing of an electric lawn mower of a walking type is inclined such that the cutter housing rises in a rearward direction. A battery is mounted to the upper face of a rear portion of the cutter housing. A discharge port for discharging cut grass into a grass bag is formed on a lower face of the rear portion of the cutter housing. An opening area of the discharge port is sufficiently maintained by the rearward rising inclination of the cutter housing. The battery is set to take a forward inclining orientation and the height of the mower body can be held to a low height. Since the battery is arranged above a rear wheel, the weight of the battery is supported by the rear wheels and the load on the front wheels is reduced so that the running direction of the electric lawn mower can be easily changed.
