    • This invention relates to an automatic transmission for a motor vehicle. A plurality of brakes and clutches have heretofore been independently provided in the axial direction and engaging or disangaging has been made independently when a gear stage for each range is selected, so that the size in the axial direction could not be shortened. The present invention intends to resolve the above-described problem and provides an automatic transmission in which the size in the axial direction is shortened, so that two multi-disc clutches(C3, C0) indenpendently engageable with or disengageable from an outer cylinder(108) are provided in series in the axial direction, and grooves(125), through which penetrate upline tubes(126) extending between a first piston(110) and the clutch(C0), are provided at a plurality of positions in the clutch(C3). When a second piston(112) is operated, the clutch(C3) is engaged or disengaged. Furthermore, when the first piston(110) is operated, the upline tube(126) extending between the first piston(110) and the clutch(C0) is operated togather with the first piston(110), whereby the clutch(C0) is engaged or disengaged. For this reason, according to the present invention, no interference takes place between the both clutches(C0, C3) when one clutch(C0) is released in a state where the other clutch(C3) is engaged.

    • A stator shaft is press-fitted and secured to the inner peripheral surface of a pump cover positioned between a torque converter and a automatic transmission mechanism section. Bushings are fitted to a part opposing the press-fit section with reference to the outer peripheral surface of an input shaft fabricated with a uniform diameter with the exception of the rear end part, and to a part slightly forward of the above-mentioned part, respectively, and an oil channel for the torque converter feed pressure is formed between the two bushings. As a result, the forward end section of the input shaft is supported in a freely rotatable manner by the bushings which are relatively close to each other. The torque converter feed pressure is fed from an oil channel formed in the pump cover to an oil channel between the two bushings, and through the cross hole and the center hole formed in the input shaft to the torque converter. The stator shaft is press-fitted into the pump cover and secured to it, and back-up is provided to the press-fit section by bushings.

    • A speed change device for use in driving auxiliary machinery, comprising an auxiliary machinery driving pulley as an output member, an input member fixed to a driving shaft of an engine, a planetary gear transmission connecting changeably in speed between the auxiliary machinery driving pulley and the input member, and a hydraulic control unit for controlling the planetary gear transmission. The planetary gear transmission comprises a planetary gear set, a one-way clutch and a clutch equipped with a hydraulic servo. The hydraulic control unit has a centrifugal type governor valve which switches between feed and release a feed oil pressure to the hydraulic servo according to an increase or decrease in the number of revolutions of the driving shaft. The planetary gear set includes a planetary carrier connected to the auxiliary machinery driving pulley, a ring gear connected to the input member and a sun gear connected to support means which is fixed to the engine block through the one-way clutch, the ring gear and the sun gear being connected engageably and disengageably by the clutch equipped with the hydraulic servo.
