    • The present invention is directed to improve compression efficiency by variable-length coding in accordance with characteristics of image data to be processed. An apparatus for compressing quantized data by variable-length coding includes: a statistical information storing memory (212) for storing statistical information (MBTyp and CBPL) of coded image data; a variable-length code table generating unit (213) for generating a variable-length code table on the basis of the statistical information stored in the memory; and a variable-length coding unit (205) for performing variable-length coding on the basis of the variable-length code table. The variable-length code table generating unit generates a variable-length code table by adding occurrence probability of statistical information calculated within a predetermined range of the coded image data and initial occurrence probability selected on the basis of a coding parameter (S3005), and assigning a short code in descending order of statistical information obtained by the addition (S3006).

    • A vibration sensor has a first substrate, a second substrate relatively movable by an external vibration while opposed to the first substrate, an electret group having a plurality of electrets that are arrayed in a relative movement direction on a side of one of surfaces of the first substrate, and an electrode group having a plurality of electrodes that are arrayed in the relative movement direction on a side of a surface of the second substrate. The surface of the second substrate is opposed to the electret group. A positional relationship between the electret group and the electrode group changes with a relative change in position of the first and second substrates by the external vibration to output an external vibration detection signal.

    • During the reception of a content delivery service, if the service is continued by switching a communication path, a temporary interruption occurs upon the switching of a session. There are cases where the same service cannot be continued if the communication speed of the communication path prior to switching is greatly different from that of a communication path after switching. Sessions for delivering two contents each encoded from the same source data, having different bit rates, and temporally synchronized with each other are established simultaneously with respect to a client terminal. The sessions are switched at the client terminal based on information on the respective times of content data from the two sessions such that a temporal continuation is provided therebetween.
