    • A battery pack 1 of the present invention includes: a plurality of lithium ion secondary batteries 10 electrically connected together in series, in parallel, or in series-parallel combination; a tray 11; and a housing 12. The lithium ion secondary batteries 10 each include an electrode assembly containing an alloy-based negative electrode active material serving as a negative electrode active material, and each have a sealed surface 10a. The lithium ion secondary battery 10 is mounted on the tray. The housing 12 accommodates the tray 11 with the lithium ion secondary battery 10 mounted thereon. Even if high-temperature contents are produced in the interior of the lithium ion secondary battery 10 in the event of internal short circuiting or overcharging, this configuration prevents the high-temperature contents from leaking out of the batter pack 1, and thus improves the safety of the battery pack 1.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery that can ensure a high level of safety even when exposed to severe conditions such as a nail penetration test or crush test, and exhibit excellent output characteristics.The present invention relates to an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery having a material mixture containing active material particles capable of reversibly absorbing and desorbing lithium, and a current collector that carries the material mixture, wherein a surface of the current collector has recessed portions, and an area occupied by the recessed portions accounts for not less than 30% of an a material mixture carrying area of the current collector. The present invention further relates to an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery wherein, in a cut surface obtained by simultaneously cutting a material mixture and a current collector vertically to an electrode plane, the maximum depth of recessed portions is not less than 1 μm, or a difference between an average thickness of a current collector and a maximum thickness of the current collector is not less than 0.35 μm.

    • A lithium secondary battery according to the present invention includes: a positive electrode having a positive-electrode active material capable of occluding and releasing lithium ions; a negative electrode having a negative-electrode active material capable of occluding and releasing lithium ions; a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and an electrolyte having lithium-ion conductivity. The positive-electrode active material contains a nickel-type lithium-containing complex oxide. The negative-electrode active material contains a graphite-type material having a reversible capacity of 350 mAh/g or more and an irreversible capacity of 30 mAh/g or less. A ratio Qc/Qa between an irreversible capacity Qc per unit area in a portion of the positive electrode that opposes the negative electrode and an irreversible capacity Qa per unit area in a portion of the negative electrode that opposes the positive electrode is equal to or greater than 0.50 but less than 1. As a result, the charge-discharge cycle characteristics can be improved while ensuring a high capacity.
