    • Disclosed are a pyrimidine or triazine compound represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents cyano group, a halogen atom, hydroxy group or --O--R.sup.7 where R.sup.7 represents a lower alkyl group, a lower alkenyl group, a lower alkynyl group, a halo-lower alkyl group or a cyano-lower alkyl group; R.sup.2 represents hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R.sup.3 represents hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R.sup.4 represents a 1-imidazolyl group, --NHSO.sub.2 --R.sup.8 where R.sup.8 represents a lower alkyl group or a phenyl group which may have a substituent, hydroxy group, a lower alkoxy group or a benzyloxy group when Z is nitrogen atom; or a 1-imidazolyl group, --NHSO.sub.2 --R.sup.8 where R.sup.8 has the same meaning as defined above, hydroxy group, OK, a lower alkoxy group which may have a substituent, a lower alkenyloxy group, a lower alkynyloxy group, a cycloalkoxy group which may have a substituent, a phenoxy group, a benzyloxy group, a lower alkylthio group, a phenylthio group or an alkylsulfonylamino group when Z is --CH.dbd. group; R.sup.5 represents a lower alkoxy group; R.sup.6 represents a lower alkoxy group or a lower alkyl group; X represents oxygen atom or sulfur atom; and Z represents nitrogen atom or --CH.dbd. group.processes for preparing the same and a herbicide containing the same as an active ingredient(s).

    • A process for preparing an oxyglutaric acid ester derivative of the formula: ##STR1## in which each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is C.sub.1-5 alkoxy, C.sub.1-7 aralkyloxy, C.sub.7-9 halogenated aralkyloxy or phenyl, R.sup.4 is a hydroxyl-protecting group, and R.sup.5 is C.sub.1-10 alkyl which may have a substituent, comprises the steps of reacting a methyl phosphonate derivative or methyl phosphine oxide derivative with an oxyglutaric acid mono-ester to give a reaction product which comprises an oxyglutaric acid derivative having a phosphorus-containing group and a pentenedioic acid mono-ester (by-product), removing the pendenedioic acid mono-ester from the reaction product to isolate the oxyglutaric acid derivative, and converting the isolated oxyglutaric acid derivative into the oxyglutaric acid ester derivative. A process for obtaining an optically active oxyglutaric acid ester derivative is also disclosed.

    • Disclosed is a process for preparing 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylphenol from 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylaniline, which comprises the steps of (1) using about 1 to 20 parts by weight of water based on 1 part by weight of 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylaniline in the presence of sulfuric acid to obtain 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylaniline sulfate; (2) subjecting the obtained 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylaniline sulfate to a diazotization reaction by using a diazotizing agent to obtain an aqueous solution containing about 8 to 25% by weight of a 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylbenzene-diazonium salt where a sulfuric acid concentration after diazotization is about 30 to 70% by weight in terms of the amount of sulfuric acid added, and the amount of water used is about 1 to 20 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylaniline; and (3) hydrolyzing the obtained 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylbenzenediazonium salt where a sulfuric acid concentration is about 30 to 70% by weight in terms of the amount of sulfuric acid added in a copper sulfate aqueous solution.
