    • A method and core network node for establishing a connection between a first access node and a second access node. The first access node sends to a first core network node, a connection establishment request that includes a set of framing protocol parameters for the framing of information to be sent over an interface between the first access node and the first core network node. The first core network node stores the parameter set and initializes a connection to a further core network node according to the framing protocol. If the further core network node is not connectable to the second access node, connections are successively made to additional core network nodes until reaching a final core network node connectable to the second access node. The final core network node initializes the connection to the second access node, which stores the parameter set. The connection is then established between the first access node and the second access node utilizing the parameter set.

    • A method of establishing a connection between a first access node and a second access node via a core network having a first core network node, further core network nodes, and a final core network node. The first access node sends an access request to the first core network node, which stores a set of framing information parameters received in the access request. The first core network node initializes the connection to a further core network node and sends the parameter set together with an indication that transparent transmission is to be utilized after connection establishment. The initialization of the connection and storing of the parameter set and the indication is performed stepwise in further core network nodes until the final core network node is reached. The final core network node initializes the connection to the second access node, which stores the parameter set and the indication.

    • A method and core network node for establishing a connection between a first access node and a second access node.     • The present invention relates generally to telecommunication services and, in particular, to a system and method of managing a call, particularly with regard to a modification to bearer characteristics. In one aspect the invention provides a method and system of managing a call in a telecommunication system, the telecommunication system including a network having at least one call controller effecting a call control function and at least one bearer controller effecting a bearer control function, the call controller and the bearer controller separated by a vertical control protocol interface, including providing in at least one message, communicated within the telecommunication system, an indication of the capability of the at least one bearer controller to modify a characteristic of a bearer; and receiving and storing said indication in the at least one call controller. In another aspect the invention provides a media gateway controller being operable to request indications and to receive indications from at least one media gateway of the capability of the at least one media gateway to modify a characteristic of a bearer established by the at least media gateway. In a preferred embodiment the invention provides a media gateway controller operable to receive requests for an indication of the capability of the at least one media gateway to modify a characteristic of a bearer established by the media gateway.

    • In a method for the control of a connection in a communication network comprising a plurality of nodes (MSC, TSN, MG), a connection (CO) is established stepwise between nodes (MSC, TSN, MG). At least two of the nodes (MSC, TSN, MG) are adapted to insert an entity into the connection (CO), the entity affecting the connection quality, or to remove an entity affecting the connection quality from the connection. An indicator is forwarded between nodes controlling the connection (CO) wherein the indicator indicates whether the connection (CO) comprises an entity affecting the connection quality. A node which decides to insert an entity into the connection or remove an entity adjusts the indicator accordingly before forwarding it to a further node (MSC, TNS, MSC′) controlling the connection (CO). A node (MSC, TSN, MSC′) controlling the connection (CO) checks the value of the indicator when it performs a decision to insert or remove an entity. Nodes and program units for performing the method are also described.
