    • Disclosed herein in an exemplary embodiment is a method for providing variable assist in an active steering system of a vehicle. The method comprises: receiving an input signal that includes at least one of, a variable ratio command signal, a stability command signal, a hand wheel position signal, a vehicle speed signal indicative of a speed of the vehicle, a signal indicative of an operator selected function, and a signal indicative a vehicle operating mode. The method also comprises: generating an assist command to an assist mechanism responsive to the input signal wherein the assist mechanism is operatively coupled to the differential actuator and a road wheel of the steering system to provide an assist torque responsive to the motion of the output shaft. The active steering system includes a hand wheel operatively coupled to an input of a differential actuator and a motor operatively coupled to the differential actuator. The differential actuator is configured to translate motion of the input into motion of the output shaft, where the motion of the output shaft is further responsive to the motor and wherein the output shaft is coupled to the road wheel of the steering system.

    • A control system for a steering system in a vehicle comprising: a reference model responsive to an operator input that computes desired states of the vehicle; a feedforward controller in operable communication with the reference model. The feedforward controller computes a first control value based on input from said reference model and based on at least one of: a lateral velocity, a rate of lateral velocity, a lateral acceleration, and a combination, wherein the combination includes a yaw rate with at least one of a lateral velocity, a rate of lateral velocity, and a lateral acceleration of the motor vehicle. The system also includes an actuator for affecting the steering system based on the first control value, the actuator in operable communication with the feedforward controller.

A second differential is determined based on the first payload-state parameter and the roll value. A multiplier is determined. A payload estimate is determined based on the first payload differential, the second payload differential, and the multiplier.     • A convertible connector which may be either a male or female pressfit connector uses a common metal shell that is reversed depending upon whether a male or female connector is used, and which receives one of two different insulators depending upon the type of connector to be made. The insulator is used to press fit the terminal pin into the printed circuit board, and a standard prior art male pressfit terminal pin is used with a metallic tube fitted over one end of the male pressfit terminal to adapt it for use in the convertible connector.
