    • A printing apparatus is provided with a main body including a video controller, having video signal generation device for generating a video signal from image information based on a recording command from an external apparatus and control device, and with a supervisory controller including optional unit control device for controlling at least an optional unit connectable to the main body. The video controller includes a process time informing device for informing the supervisory controller of an image development process time, and the supervisory controller includes a paper transport time memory for storing the paper transport time from the optional paper feed source to the entrance of the printing apparatus, a comparator for comparing the process time informed by the process time informing device with the paper transport time stored in the paper transport time memory, and a paper feed source changing device for changing the paper feed source in case the comparator identifies that the process time is shorter. The supervisory controller effects change of the order of process, determination of the paper feed unit, continuation of the printing process in case of paper jamming. There is provided a printing apparatus for printing text data received from an external apparatus, including paper feed units and paper ejecting units provided as standard components and paper feed units and paper ejecting units connectable as optional units, wherein an optimum combination is selected among the usable ones among the above-mentioned paper feed and ejecting units.

    • An optional apparatus which can be connected to a printer or other optional apparatus includes a communication section for communicating with other apparatus and a control section which executes a command in response to the command received via the communication section; wherein the communication section has a first communication path for receiving a data string from an apparatus on the upstream side in communication and for transmitting the received data string to an apparatus on the downstream side of the communication and a second communication path for receiving a data string received from the apparatus on the downstream side of communication and for transmitting the received data string to the apparatus on the upstream side of the communication; and the control section executes a command in the command string received via the first communication path or the second communication path and loads the data indicating the execution result of the command in the command string.

    • An image forming apparatus includes: a photosensitive drum; a charging unit which is brought into contact with the drum and charges it; a developing unit for obtaining a visible image from an electrostatic latent image formed on the drum; a charge high voltage generation circuit for supplying an output which is obtained by multiplexing a high AC voltage with a high DC voltage with the charging unit; a development high voltage generation circuit for supplying an output which is obtained by multiplexing a high AC voltage with a high DC voltage to the developing unit; and a sync circuit for synchronizing a high voltage alternating current of the charge high voltage generation circuit and a high voltage alternating current of the development high voltage generation circuit. A ratio of the frequencies of the high voltage alternating currents of the development high voltage generation circuit and the charge high voltage generation circuit is set to an integer. The high AC voltages are derived from the signals having an integer frequency dividing ratio which are obtained by frequency dividing the same clock signal.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit for forming an undeveloped image on a recording material, heating fixing unit for fixing the undeveloped image on the recording material by heating. The heating fixing unit includes a heating member heated by a heater, a temperature detector for detecting a temperature of the heating member, and a current-supply control unit for controlling current supply to the heater so that the temperature detected by the temperature detector is maintained at a predetermined control temperature in a standby state. The apparatus further includes an electric-power reduction unit for reducing or cutting electric power supplied to the heater when an image forming signal is not input for a predetermined time period after the completion of an image forming operation, and a discriminating unit for discriminating the frequency of image forming operations. The electric power reduction unit sets the predetermined time period variably in accordance with frequency of image forming operations discriminated by the discriminating unit.
