摘要： Previous hybrid-anion and cation-redox (HACR) cathodes were limited in cycling performance by irreversible anionic redox reactions caused by the loss of anions. To overcome this limitation, a lithium (Li) transition metal (M) oxide particle is described having a Li concentration gradient. In one example, the particle includes a Li-rich core region that provides capacity and energy density due anionic and cationic contributions and a Li-poor surface region surrounding the core region to inhibit anionic activity and thus substantially reduce the loss of anions. A gradient region disposed between the core and surface regions has a Li concentration profile that varies from a first Li concentration in the core region to a second Li concentration in the surface region. A high-temperature leaching method may be used to leach LiO from a Li-rich Li1+xM1−XO2 particle, thus forming a coherent Li gradient with a stabilized layered structure.

摘要： An anode includes a mixed ionic-electronic conductor (MIEC) with an open pore structure. The open pore structure includes open pores to facilitate motion of an alkali metal into and/or out of the MIEC. The MIEC may also be passive (the MIEC does not store or release alkali metal). In one example, the open pore structure may be an array of substantially aligned tubules with a width less than about 300 nm, a wall thickness between about 1 nm to about 30 nm, and a height of at least 10 um arranged as a honeycomb.

In one example, a hybrid cathode includes an electrode and a cathode material. Furthermore, the intercalation compound and sulfur contribute to the capacity of the Li—S battery within a voltage window of 1.7 V to 2.8 V.

摘要： A metal-nanostructure composite includes a nanostructure-metal matrix composite. The nanostructure-metal matrix composite includes a host metal and nanofiller dispersed in the grains of the metal. The nanofillers can include both one-dimensional nanostructures (e.g., nano-tubes, nano-rods, nano-pillars, etc.) and two-dimensional nanostructures (e.g., graphene, nano-foam, nano-mesh, etc.) to improve the radiation resistance and mechanical properties of the host metal. A method of manufacturing the metal-nanostructure composite includes obtaining carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and encapsulating the CNTs with metal particles. The method also includes consolidating the encapsulated CNTs and forming (e.g., via extrusion) the consolidated metal/CNTs to produce the metal-nanostructure composite.
