    • An ultrasonic imaging system having an electronic control and signal processing circuit section interconnected with an improved probe assembly suitable for use in varied applications of ultrasonic imaging, especially in medicine, and in other fields of use. The probe assembly indudes an operator interface and a sensor head, both of which are structurally integrated within a compact housing according to a predetermined spatial relationship, such that an operator can position the probe assembly so as to locate the display adjacent the physical structure that is subject to isonification while simultaneously viewing, on the operator interface, an ultrasonic image of the physical structure. The ultrasonic image is thereby considered to be observable through an "acoustic window" that is implemented in the view provided in the operator interface.

    • A universal gripper particularly adapted for handling parts such as axial leaded electronic components. The gripper includes a pair of jaws with depending fingers mounted on a baseplate for linear motion equally about the centerline of the baseplate. A long stroke cylinder is mounted between the jaws and is adapted for opening and closing the gripping fingers through a relatively long stroke. A short stroke cylinder is affixed to one of the jaws and includes a yoke portion extending to the other jaw. Locking apparatus is provided for selectively locking the yoke portion to the other jaw. When the locking apparatus is activated, the short stroke cylinder opens and closes the fingers through a relatively short stroke. In this way, electronic components can be handled without crushing the leads. Because of the provision of the short stroke cylinder, the disclosed gripper can be used in tight areas. A center push cylinder is provided for ejecting parts from the gripping fingers.

    • A flush catheter is provided which is configured to be introduced into an orifice to create a flush zone therein. The flush catheter includes a catheter body having an inner cavity, the inner cavity being configured to communicate with a source of flush solution, one or more openings configured to expel therethrough flush solution, and a sheath at least partially covering the one or more openings, wherein when flush solution is expelled through the one or more openings, the flush solution is directed by the sheath to flow along an outer surface of the catheter body, thereby creating a flush zone along a length of the outer surface of the catheter body. The flush catheter may be used in combination with an image catheter/probe such as an image catheter/probe utilized in OCT imaging systems.

    • In one aspect, the invention relates to one or more rotatable elements and one or more stationary element such that the elements are arranged along a common axis of rotation co-linear with or substantially parallel to an optical path. The optical path is a portion of a sample arm of an interferometer. Further, the rotatable and stationary elements are configured to couple electrical signals and optical signals between a data collection probe and an interface unit or other component of an imaging system. In one embodiment, the data collection probe is a combination ultrasound and OCT probe. In one aspect, the invention relates to a rotary joint in which the optical fiber and a fiber optic rotary joint lie in the center of one or more conductive elements of an electrical rotary joint which are annularly disposed around one or both of the optical fiber and optical rotary joint.
