    • A counterbalance system for an upward acting door includes spaced apart wall brackets supporting a tubular shaft for spaced apart cable drums operable to wind counterbalance cables thereon to counterbalance the weight of the door. Torsion springs interconnect the cable drums and spring winder tubes sleeved over the springs and connected to the wall brackets by a winder mechanism including a support plate having spaced apart tabs adapted to register in corresponding slots formed in a wall bracket. The winder mechanism includes a worm gear drive including a ring gear which is connected to one end of the winder tube by an arrangement of radially inwardly projecting key portions in a bore of the ring gear which register with axial grooves formed in the winder tube and are adapted to slide into transverse slots intersecting the grooves. A removable lock pin is engageable with the ring gear or the worm of the worm gear drive. The overall arrangement of the winder mechanism, including the wall bracket, support plate, and connection between the ring gear and winder tube facilitate ease of fabrication, assembly and disassembly.

One or both of the cable drums may be connected to one end of a torsion coil spring and the opposite end of each spring is connected to a hub assembly. Elongated spring winding and protective cover tubes are sleeved over the springs and are connected to the brackets by worm-gear drive winding mechanisms, respectively, for rotating the tubes to effect winding of the torsion coil springs through the hub assemblies but preventing rotation of the tubes during normal operation of the counterbalance system. The cable drums and spring hub assemblies may be supported on an elongated synchronizing shaft or a torque transfer shaft extending between and supported on the wall brackets.

Elongated prefabricated insulation parts are inserted in cavities formed by the top and bottom edges and a generally rectangular planar insulation part is insertable in a cavity formed between the top and bottom edges and between the first mentioned insulation parts. Channel shaped brackets are insertable in cavities formed by the top and bottom edges for reinforcing the skin part at a point of attachment of end stiles and hinge parts.     • An upward acting sectional door is formed of rectangular door sections which are interconnected to each other by a continuous hinge comprising opposed partial arcuate hinge members formed on a lower rail of an upper section and an upper rail of an adjacent lower section and engaged with a third hinge member comprising an elongated tubular pin having a D-shaped cross section. The hinge pin is secured against rotation by retainer members at opposite ends of one of the door sections. The hinge permits lateral assembly and disassembly of one door section relative to the other. Additional load bearing hinge members are provided connected to the lateral side edges of adjacent door sections and are interconnected by support members disposed in the tubular hinge pin for transferring part or all of the forces between adjacent door sections thereby allowing the arcuate hinge members to function substantially as cooperating light and weatherseal members and to provide a substantially pinch proof door.

    • A counterbalance mechanism for a sectional garage door includes an elongated shaft mounted above the door opening and supporting spaced apart cable drums connected to respective cables which are connected at one end to the door for exerting a counterbalance force thereon. Opposed torsion springs are connected to the cable drums at one end, respectively, and to respective hub members which are axially slidable on but nonrotatable with respect to the shaft. The cable drums are provided with detachable bushing members for engagement with the support brackets. The shaft is connected to a non-reversible worm gear drive at one end. The worm gear drive may be actuated to selectively vary the torsional deflection of the counterbalance springs by rotating the worm and a ring gear meshed therewith. The worm gear drive may be detachably mounted on one or the other of shaft support brackets and a lock plate is supported on the shaft and engageable with a bracket to prevent rotation of the shaft when the drive mechanism is removed. The door guide members are engaged with coil compression springs for centering the door between its guide tracks and to minimize skewing of the door during opening and closing movement.

    • A flexible roll-up door assembly includes opposed, elongated frame members supporting guides for longitudinal side edges of the door and for slide members connectable to a bottom beam of the door closure member by a latch mechanism which includes opposed latch members which engage the slide members, respectively. The slide members rotate to permit the latch members to separate in response to a predetermined force acting on the door closure or the bottom beam. The latch members are spring biased to retract out of or extend into cooperating slots in the slide members and may be reinserted in the slide members to reconnect the door to the guides. The latch members may include retaining projections cooperable with reentrant edges or other surfaces in the slots to retain the latch members engaged with the slide members. Alternate embodiments include latch members formed on the slide members and engaged in slots formed in a transverse bottom beam for the door closure member. Spaced apart tensioning reels are mounted on the door closure shaft and support cables which are trained through the guides and are connected to the slide members to apply a pulldown tensioning force on the door closure member. Pivotable brake arms, disposed adjacent the tensioning reels, have the tensioning cables trained thereover and are responsive to disconnection of the door bottom beam from the slide members to engage the tensioning reels to reduce the speed of cable windup.

    • A counterbalance system for an upward acting door includes a cable drum support shaft and a torsion spring drive mechanism mounted adjacent one or both sides of the door and drivably connected to the drum support shaft. The spring drive mechanism includes a torsion coil spring mounted on a frame and connected to a vertically oriented shaft which, in turn, is connected to an output shaft by way of a bevel gear drive.
