    • A computer program, which is a user interface for exploring and analyzing information in a plurality of analysis environments, comprises the steps of receiving information to be analyzed, generating data objects, each of which has a plurality of associated attributes, creating a first visualization frame that has a plurality of first elements. The first visualization frame is created by arranging each of the data objects according to at least one of its plurality of attributes, and the attributes remain associated with the respective data objects. The final step creates at least one second visualization frame by manipulating individual first elements of the first visualization frame according to a second one of the plurality of attributes and arranging the data objects according to a second one of the plurality of attributes. The attributes remain associated with the respective data objects.

    • A navigation system for an automotive vehicle that travels on roads includes a vehicle positioning apparatus that determines location data associated with the vehicle. A source of attraction location data provides location data associated with a plurality of attractions that are of interest to a user of the vehicle. A processing device is communicatively coupled to the vehicle positioning apparatus and to the source of attraction location data. The processing device calculates a distance and direction from the vehicle to at least one of the attractions of interest. The calculating is based upon the location data associated with the vehicle and the location data associated with the attractions of interest. A graphical display arrangement is communicatively coupled to the processing device. The graphical display arrangement indicates the calculated distance and direction without graphically indicating orientation of roads on which the vehicle may travel.

    • A document management apparatus minimizes the busy time of a cursor by using asynchronous servicing of responses from repositories, and by executing the cursor control process during time intervals between receiving responses. Also during these time intervals, other processes can be launched in response to actions using the cursor and commands initiated by the user. The apparatus has a find tool to transmit a first search request for a category of documents; processing a first response to the first request, the first response having a list of documents found in the category; and transmitting a search request for selected attribute value pairs for each document in the list. The apparatus has a display comprising: a document display for displaying a blank document screen object for each document in the list; updating a screen object corresponding to a document whose attribute is received by the apparatus, the update occurring in response to receipt of a message carrying the attribute and corresponding value.
