    • Disclosed is a multi-air conditioner including: an outdoor unit having a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger, and an outdoor fan for ventilating the outdoor heat exchanger; a plurality of indoor units each having an electronic expansion valve and an indoor heat exchanger; a distributor for selectively guiding a refrigerant of the outdoor unit into the plurality of indoor units according to an operation condition; a four-way valve for selectively switching a flow direction of the refrigerant flowing through the outdoor heat exchanger; a selective expansion unit for selectively expanding the refrigerant according to the flow direction of the refrigerant; a gas-liquid separator for separating a vapor-phase refrigerant and a liquid-phase refrigerant, from the refrigerant flowing from the outdoor heat exchanger; and a connection tube part having a first connection tube for connecting the four-way valve with a distributor, a second connection tube for connecting an upper portion of the gas-liquid separator with the distributor thereby guiding a vapor-phase refrigerant, and a third connection tube for connecting a lower portion of the gas-liquid separator with the distributor thereby guiding a liquid-phase refrigerant.

    • Disclosed is a multi-air conditioner in which heating and cooling operations are performed at the same time, the number of connection pipes connecting outdoor unit and distributor is simplified to three to flow a specific pressure and phase refrigerant through each connection pipe regardless of operation condition. The air conditioner includes: an outdoor unit installed at an outdoor location, and having therein a compressor and an outdoor heat exchanger; a plurality of indoor units respectively installed at indoor rooms, each of the indoor units having therein an electronic expansion valve and an indoor heat exchanger; a distributor provided between the outdoor unit and the plurality of indoor units, for selectively guiding a refrigerant introduced from the outdoor unit to the plurality of indoor units according to an operation condition; a four-way valve provided on an outlet side of the compressor, for selectively switching a flow direction of the refrigerant flowing through the outdoor heat exchanger; a first connection pipe branched from a pipe connecting an inlet side of the compressor with the four-way valve, for connecting the distributor to guide the refrigerant; a second connection pipe for connecting the outdoor heat exchanger with the distributor to guide the refrigerant; and a selective expansion apparatus provided on the third connection pipe and including a heating electronic expansion unit for selectively expanding the refrigerant.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus and method for preventing liquid refrigerant accumulation in an accumulator of an outdoor unit of an air conditioner. The method includes the steps of: determining a state of a compressor; if the compressor is in standby mode or off state, turning on a four-way valve; determining whether the state of the compressor in standby mode or off state continues longer than a predetermined amount of time; and if the state of the compressor continues longer than the predetermined amount of time, closing an expansion valve. Particularly, high-pressure refrigerant flows in the closed expansion valve while low-pressure refrigerant flows in a check valve through the four-way valve. The apparatus includes a suction pipe connected to spray oil of the accumulator to the compressor; a liquid recovery pipe with one end being connected to the suction pipe and the other end being connected to the accumulator; and a liquid recovery valve for controlling opening/closing of the liquid recovery pipe, in which a compressor of the air conditioner in cooling or heating mode is operated and a liquid recovery valve for controlling a liquid recovery pipe connected to the compressor and an accumulator is opened to reduce oil in the accumulator. According to the present invention, when the compressor is off, it is possible to prevent liquid refrigerant accumulation by changing refrigerant flow line to the accumulator and the refrigerant at the lower end of the accumulator can be recovered.
