    • A compact storage system, mountable for operation on a flat base platform, includes at least one guide rail having a roof and two legs depending from the roof thereby defining an inverted, generally U-shaped continuous channel. The guide rail is mounted in spaced generally mutually parallel relation to the base platform with its legs projecting toward the base platform so that the channel opens downwardly. The compact storage system further includes at least one movable storage unit that is supported for translational movement on the base platform. One or more guide rollers are mounted on the storage unit to be received in the channel of the guide rail with the guide roller being formed to engage either one of the legs of the rail for movement relative thereto. Accordingly, translational movement of the storage unit is confined to a path defined by the guide rail.

    • A device stores a plurality of dishes or the like in a plurality of stacks, with each stack at an object-receiving region within the device. The device includes a base and a plurality of spaced apart partitions for partitioning the space extending above the base into a plurality of object-receiving regions. The space between the partitions forms a pair of diametrically opposite slits in each object-receiving region. In one embodiment, four generally T-shaped partitions together form four object-receiving regions, and a central open region. In another embodiment, eight partitions, including two corner partitions, four generally T-shaped partitions, and two cross-shaped partitions, form nine object-receiving regions, one of which is a central open region extending above the center of the base. The use of diametrically opposed slits facilitates the loading and unloading of dishes and permits the slits to be relatively narrow so that they occupy a relatively small proportion, about 23% in one embodiment, of the total lateral periphery of the object-receiving regions. Further, the use of an object-receiving region positioned in the center of the device permits the formation of nine object-receiving regions, thereby increasing the number of stacks of dishes that can be stored in the device.

A generally flat tray of molded plastic is provided with a flange extending upwardly around its periphery. Rib sections are spaced periodically about the tray, forming generally parallel channels to the rib sections to allow free circulation of air and free drainage of liquids from the underside of stored items. Each rib section extends upwardly a greater extent than the peripheral flange. Slots are provided in each rib section further to allow the free circulation of air or other gases while restricting drainage of liquids.
