    • A load-dispersing device for use with a ladder has a pail of flexible members having first and second configurations and a memory to return the members from the second to the first configuration. An interior cavity within each member is exposed, when each member is in the second configuration, through a longitudinal slit. Separating the longitudinal slit exposes the interior cavity placing the member in the second configuration for mounting on the respective ladder side rail and releasing the longitudinal slit returns the member to the first configuration and secures the member around the respective side rail. The member having contact and locking areas which can be manufactured either from separate material or integral with one another. The contact area can have an undulating surface and can have a spring embedded within the contact area to return the member to the first configuration. The contact area can alternatively be adhered directly to the load-bearing surface of the ladder.

    • A load-dispersing device for non-free standing ladders or other devices that require reduction of horizontal slippage. The single strip load-dispersing bumper can be used in combination with a ladder having side rails with a load-bearing surface. The bumper consists of a pair of flexible, resilient, load-dispersing members, each of which has a contact area and a method of affixing the members to the ladder. A first side of the contact area is placed adjacent and secured to the load-bearing surface. The second side of the contact area is placed between the load bearing surface and a support surface to prevent the ladder from sliding. The bumper can be affixed to the load bearing surface by an adhesive, tape or hook and loop material or using multiple dome-topped pins that are integral with the first side. The dome-topped pins are dimensioned to fit within holes that are placed along the load-bearing surface. A retaining clip encompasses the contact area and at least a portion of the ladder side rails to protect the end of the bumper. The retaining clip can be a soft metal having a body having a notch to receive the bumper and a pair of parallel flanges for crimping around the side rails.

    • This invention for use with a water-using system is directed to a heat recovery and storage device adapted to recover heat from warm waste liquid and transfer it to cooler supply water where the flows of both waste liquid and supply water are intermittent and not necessarily contemporaneous, and to store the warmed supply water until required for use. This invention comprises an internal high-thermal-conductivity waste liquid transmission pipe enclosed by a low-thermal-conductivity supply water reservoir pipe, the ends of the resulting storage reservoir being enclosed by end-plates incorporating an inlet and a discharge coupling means for installing the device into the waste liquid pipe of a building in place of a section of that pipe, the inlet and outlet coupling being so aligned that the internal surfaces of the waste liquid pipe from the building, the inlet coupling, the heat recovery and storage device's internal waste liquid transmission pipe, the outlet coupling, and the waste liquid outlet pipe to the waste disposal means, respectively are aligned without obstruction so that the waste liquid flow is not impeded. The endplates may also be adapted to accommodate other pipes, such as that leading to the condenser of an airconditioner, from which heat may be transferred to the supply water. A cool supply water injection means is disposed in the lower portion of the reservoir and a tapping means for warmed supply water is disposed in the upper portion thereof.
