    • A multi-directional scaffold transport device, which may be attached to each base of a scaffold's legs, provides increased mobility in relation to movement atop corrugated floor decking with vertical anchor studs used in conventional steel I-beam superstructures. The device comprises an elongated flat plate with angled extensions. The angled extensions may form a trapezoidal shape, or more preferably a triangular shape, and may be curved or have compound curvature to enable deflection of the device to either side of any anchor stud encountered, rather than jamming thereon. The elongated flat plate may have minimal length sufficient to normally receive support from at least two peaks of the corrugated decking. The device may incorporate threaded studs protruding from the elongated flat plate, which may be received by holes in the base of the scaffold, and be removeably fastened thereto using nuts. The device may also incorporate vertical walls for increased stiffness.

    • Ladder safety devices including a gutter guard, a ladder extender, a ground spike and a ladder shoe, are described that improve the stability of a ladder placed against a structure with or without guttering. Embodiments of the gutter guard prevent the ladder from contacting the gutter, distribute the ladder's weight to minimize structural damage, avoid ladder-gutter contact resulting in and help to hold the ladder in place. The ladder extender offsets the ladder from the shingles of a roof when gutters are not present. The ground spike and ladder shoe stabilize a ladder placed on a soft or hard surfaces, respectfully.

The tooth engaging member (25) can be unbiased from the toothed edge (23) of the support rod (22) to permit downward displacement of the sleeve (21) about the rod (22). A locking member (40) is provided to lock the tooth engaging member (25) in arresting position with the toothed edge (23). The sleeve (21) is also provided with a connector (52) for support engagement with one of the corner frame members (1) of the scaffolding (10).

    • A ladder system comprises first and second rails with at least one rung connected between and perpendicular to both rails. First and second non-linear rail slots are located adjacent the bottom of the respective rails. Also, the ladder system comprises first and second ladder shoes. First and second bolts extend through the first and second shoes, respectively, and the first and second slots, respectively, to moveably connect the first and second shoes to the first and second rails, respectively, with both slots of a shape so that each shoe can move about the bottom of each respective rail and each respective rail can rotate relative to each respective shoe inside each respective shoe without interference occurring between the rails and shoes. A method of climbing comprises placing the feet of ladder shoes attached to rails of a ladder system in a flat position on the ground at a first level with the rails vertically oriented relative to the ground and essentially the full weight of the ladder system on the ladder shoes. The rails are then rotated relative to the ladder shoes via a curved slot in the rails at least 15.degree. while essentially the full weight of the ladder system is on the ladder shoes which are maintained essentially still on the ground.

    • A load-dispersing device for use with a ladder has a pail of flexible members having first and second configurations and a memory to return the members from the second to the first configuration. An interior cavity within each member is exposed, when each member is in the second configuration, through a longitudinal slit. Separating the longitudinal slit exposes the interior cavity placing the member in the second configuration for mounting on the respective ladder side rail and releasing the longitudinal slit returns the member to the first configuration and secures the member around the respective side rail. The member having contact and locking areas which can be manufactured either from separate material or integral with one another. The contact area can have an undulating surface and can have a spring embedded within the contact area to return the member to the first configuration. The contact area can alternatively be adhered directly to the load-bearing surface of the ladder.
